They were one of the most active teams as far as trading goes, so that's really not a valid reason.

I read somewhere it had to do with their inability to get the top choices for coaches two years in a row. However that seems like a stupid reason to get axed after such a short period of time.

That is not the whole story though. Yes, I'm sure the decision to sh!t can Lombardi/Banner had to do with the nightmare of a coaching search that just went down, which included the Browns' favorites for the job either pulling their names out of the running after one meeting with Banner/Lombardi or refused to even interview at all.

That search was a major embarrassment for all involved, including Haslem.

However, you have to look at the reasons there was such little interest in this job. Coaches with other quality options don't want to come to a place where they'll have no control whatsoever over personnel decisions. It was well established around the city and the NFL that Banner/Lombardi had complete control of the 53 man roster.

Allegedly, Banner was offered a position if he wanted to stay with the franchise, but if it meant stripping him of his dictatorial influence over personnel decisions, he wasn't interested.

That's the problem with Banner. Good businessman and behind the scenes operator, but way too ambitious and controlling. He had the same problem in Philly. He wanted all the power... they (smartly) refused to give it to him. We saw what happens when he has total control... no one worth having is willing to be a Banner underling.

Good riddance, Joe and Mike.

joe banner

I fault him with the original release of Jerimiah Trotter… Trotter left and we had levan Kirkland running around while Brad Johnson & joe jurevcious was torching our secondary..

if you ask me, he cost us a super bowl

I won't go into Banner's other f*ck ups (Dawkins & westbrook).. But I will say the guy is ultimately bad news IMO..

YOur team did a good thing by cutting him loose

Mike Lombardi seemed to be an overrated talent evaluator… he would have some good ideas, but not enough to justify his paycheck

The poll question on The Dan Patrick Show today was Who Is the Most Dysfunctional Team in Sports (this was after the announcement the the Browns fired Banner & Lombardi). here's the final results:

1. Cleveland Browns
2. Dallas Cowboys
3. Oakland Raiders
4. Washington Redskins
5. Chicago Cubs
6. New York Knicks

people really think this too ...fans expect Dallas to win SBs every year, they expect so much out the Cowboys

we have been 8-8 three years in a row, week 17 is always meaningful...meanwhile there are dozens of teams that haven't seen .500 in that time or even sniffed the playoffs

somehow Dallas going 8-8 for three years equates to Jerry being like 80 year old Al Davis when he was drafting 40 times and Jamarcus Russell and going 3-13 every fckin year.

why should they get that consideration when they shit canned Chudzinsk after a single season?

it comes with all the hype..

Maybe it is expecting too much out of "America's Team" with all that talent to be better than 8-8 every year

If the Lakers were as mediocre as the Cowboys over the same stretch of time, they'd see the same scrutiny…

It's dysfunctional, not worst. The Knicks won 54 games last year but they certainly are dysfunctional. Although I do not think the Cowboys are dysfunctional, the person in charge just doesn't make good decisions all the time.

It's not just that, though that is a part of it.

The other thing is Jerry Jones, who is considered by most people to be way too involved and controlling, when he wouldn't be allowed in the door of any NFL front office if he wasn't insanely rich.

That's probably the biggest reason the Cowboys have such a damaged reputation in NFL circles.

Jerry Jones is viewed under a microscope BECAUSE of the hype though...he isn't the only owner/GM in the NFL...and his controlling reputation are WAY WAY WAY overblown

there are people that literally think he has called plays in games or has a direct line to Romo's helmet...

the new play-caller that we just hired?...was brought in by Garrett, not Jerry...Garrett was friends with him from being the Dolphins QB coach
