Exclamation Report: Raptors reach 1-year agreement with Jordan Hamilton

http://www.raptorsrepublic.com/2014/...rdan-hamilton/

Quote:
This is the second time Masai Ujiri has made a move to sign Jordan Hamilton

According to a report from RealGMís Shams Charania (a fairly reputable reporter), the Toronto Raptors have reached a one-year agreement with forward Jordan Hamilton.

The 23-year-old small forward was drafted 26th overall in 2011 by the Dallas Mavericks, and was dealt on draft day to the Denver Nuggets in a three-way trade. Raptors GM Masai Ujiri oversaw the deal, and it appears he has inked Hamilton for a second time.

Hamilton boasts career per-game averages of 5.8 pints. 2.8 rebounds and 0.8 assists in 13.3 minutes per game across parts of three seasons. On a per-36 minute basis, those translate nicely to 15.6 points, 7.5 points and two assists, which is more than respectable. His career PER averages out to 13.9, which is approximately league average.

Based on my personal observations on Hamilton, he reminds me of a discount version of Boston Celtics forward Jeff Green. Like Green, Hamilton has great size for the position of small forward, standing at 6-foot-7 weighing 220 pounds. He also boasts a perimeter-oriented game, having attempted 46.2 percent of his career field-goal attempts from three-point range, of which he sunk at a respectable 35.8 percent clip.

This move, however, would bring the Raptorsí roster to 16 for next season. There are currently 14 guaranteed contracts on the roster, with only point guard Will Cherryís deal as potentially unguaranteed. Given that this is the second time Ujiri has acquired Hamilton, itís safe to guess heís big on Hamiltonís potential. However, head coach Dwane Casey previously noted the teamís need for a third point guard, so itís unclear as to which faction will win out. Ultimately, itís a matter of the 15th man on the roster, meaning itís largely inconsequential. Hey, itís the offseason.

Roster is over 16 players now. That means someone has to be on the trading block.

More likely a training camp cut than a trade right now.

That or Bruno might get sent to the D-League perhaps.

Even in the D-league Bruno would still count against our 15 man roster limit.

True. From what I've seen from both of them, I'm kinda intrigued who will get it. I like both players. I still think Masai may trade somebody to clear a roster spot for both players.

I think there is a chance that Hansbrough could be moved towards the end of camp if it looks like Hamilton will make it and Casey wants to keep Cherry as the 3rd PG.

Nope this... D League counts against the limit somehow as mentioned.

Frankly it has to be Hansboro or Hayes. Maybe Sweet Lou but I doubt it given our need for swing man depth.

I would be chagrined if it happened.

Our big rotation is : Val/Amir/PP/ Bebe (the new other Bazillian). While its good its also unproven ; and I like Hayes / Hansboro to soke up minutes and foul issues for the other 4 who are all capable of being in foul trouble or cold.

* assumption. Its not Fields

At this point in time I frankly hate the idea of another move. Shockingly I like Hayes / Hansboro / Fields because of the expiring contracts and eventual cap room. If that whole "Drake blow up" is even "close to the truth" I would rather have those contracts for the year to come of the cap to make a run at a particular player.

I don't like Hayes as a player but I still see his value on a young front court. I'm not sure what's going to happen here.

Not just the front court, but for the whole team too. I remember last season a game when Memphis came to Toronto and when DeMar started the game badly and Hayes went right to him in the timeout, grabbed him and said in his ear what's up and what he has do to be become better. DeMar's body language opened up and he listened. Raptors were down early but then eventually came back and won the game. DeMar has a big 4th quarter too.

That's why you need these locker room presence players. Hayes is the oldest guy on the current team and the only player over 30 years old. If we lose him, I would actually pretty nervous as to who can step up their leadership on the team if they feel into a losing streak.

Completely agree. I am actually hoping we resign Hayes (obviously at a more reasonable salary - closer to the vet's min).
