Default "Would Shawn Marion be an All-Star without Steve Nash?"

Shawn Marion is a 4 time All-Star. He has played 3 seasons with Steve Nash. Do the math...
One of the ESPN announcers just asked that same question and neither of the other guys corrected him with this simple fact. It seems to come up on a regular basis. Why? Let's bust this myth right now.

Yes but he would need a good PG to go alongside.

they both answered yes. That was Greg Anthony who asked that and he did so because he knew that Marion was an all star before Nash. Anthony was arguing that Nash doesn't make his teammates as much as he gets credit for

You guys don't get it. Why are we theorizing on if he "would" be an All-Star without Nash when he already made an All-Star team without him? We know for a fact that he was an All-Star without Nash, and there is no reason to believe he's somehow worse now than he was 4 years ago.

Marbury was also the number one option that season, and an all-star him-self. If Shawn Marion is the number one option for a team, I don't see him as being an All-Star.

because Anthony is debunking the "Nash's teammates are nothing without him" argument.

I didn't catch that Datznaty, I'm not paying very close attention to the game as you can imagine. I still hear the same question from others on the regular, and as i expected there is already a poster agreeing with the idea of him needing the leagues best PG to be AS level

Marion doesn't have the type of game to be a number 1 option, plain and simple. but he's good at what he does. You don't need to be the number one option to be considered an all-star.

Marion would still be an all-star worthy player but would sometimes miss it if he has an off year combined with other forwards having good seasons. With Nash, he is pretty much a perennial all-star. I also don't think his stats will suffer too much when nash is replaced with another quality pg due to his ability to get offensive rebounds and finish around the rim real well.

I think it's just as much the Suns system and scoring. Of course Nash driving it is a large factor. I think he would be a fringe All-Star like Rashard Lewis, possibly Elton Brand who posts similar numbers on a lesser team.

He has been, but still he's a 3rd option at best.
