Re: Someone explain Marquette getting an 8th seed.
I learned awhile ago not to get too worked up over seedings. So many things have to be taken into account to make the seedings work for the brackets. Namely, avoiding intraconference matchups. Does Illinois seem a tad low at a 12 to me? Yeah. Does Indiana seem a tad high at 7? Yeah. But they're in the same region, and if Illinois is a 10 or 11- which I'd imagine they were closer to than a 12 on the S-curve- then they're on Indiana's side of the bracket and could potentially meet before the regional final. Likewise, if Indiana was an 8 or 9- again, I'm guessing they were on one of those lines rather than a 7 on the S-curve- then they'd be on Illinois' side of the bracket.
It's rare that a seeding is just truly inexplicable, like Tennessee getting a No. 2 last year. Marquette at No. 8 seemed a little low to me on the surface, but I'd have to look at it closer to have a real opinion, and I'm too lazy to do that right now.
Re: Someone explain Marquette getting an 8th seed.
I was surprised they were so low. I understand the whole matchup thing, but I look at it like they were a top 25 team, no matter of rankings. They played like one of the best 25. To me that means they should get a 5 or 6 seed. 8 is a little low, and it is a tough draw getting MSU and UNC the first weekend. Getting a 5 or 6 seed in that bracket still brings on Texas or Washington State, and in the first round a couple of upset teams. Sometimes I think you can look ahead to a game you could win against Texas or Washington State, and forget about George Washington or Arkansas. At least this way they get a very dangerous team in the first round and they will be focused right from the start. Maybe they then catch UNC in an off game after an easy win. Either way, to get out of the bracket they need to get past UNC, Texas, Washington State, USC, and Georgetown.
Re: Someone explain Marquette getting an 8th seed.
Other than Duke and Indiana, I have no problem with the other teams being ahead of Marquette. Some aren't MORE worthy, but arguements can't be made. A team like Vanderbilt deserves to be where they are.
Like TheGame said, they could have been a 7 seed before re-arrangements were made.
