Default Who would you rather have as a franchise player: Kobe or Dirk?

Kobe or Dirk?

I go with Dirk.

He is a real franchise player. He has made his teammates better.

Kobe is a good second level star. But he can't make his teammates better.

i think dirk, but we have yet to see what kobe could do with a good supporting cast, and as long as "mchale 2" is the Gm of the lakers we probably never will.

Dirk. But not for any "Making teammates better" thing.

Dirk, but only because you err on the side of size

*same reason Oden will be taken ahead of Durant btw
-it frees you from any egregious mistake that you could be later fired for

At the start of the 2004 season would anyone on this board done chosen Dirk over Kobe? I seriously doubt it. The only ones are probably Fab and he's a little loco. Just goes to show how much Dirk has truly improved as a player and how much Kobe truly benefitted from playing with the *MDE.

Dirk has worked hard to get to where he is at and I'd choose him because of that hard work. The man has gone from **BUST** as a rookie to NBA top 5... some say he'll even be MVP. And the scary thing is he knows he still has weaknesses, and he knows he has to improve on them.

I don't believe Kobe really wants to improve his game. He may he may not. I don't watch him EVERY GAME like I do with the Mavs and Dirk. If Dirk wanted to average 28+ and 10. He could do it. But he wants to be better in turn making the team better. If that means passing up a shot from 15 to kick it over to Buckner or George for a shot... he will. Because he knows he has to have them in the game. IMO Kobe doesn' do that enough. (And I know he has a pretty sorry supporting cast at the moment but even when he had Lamar, Luke, Mihm, etc playing he still wouldn't get them involved enough.

And then when you factor in size/position... it becomes easier of a decision for me.

Dirk had better playoff stats than Kobe when Kobe was playing with Shaq.. it doesn't take someone who is loco to figure out Dirk has been better than Kobe for a long long time..

better playoffs stats as the first option don't compare to stats as 2nd fiddle to the most dominant player in the league, dirk has better stats as rebounding (shocker, he is a PF ) but not nearly the success.

The obvious choice would be Kobe.

Dirk is shooter that goes cold so much late in games. I dont know where the "makes teammates better" came from because i dont see him driving and dishing or anything like that.

Not only does Kobe Drive, Draw the double, and dish, but he now plays within the triangle where he passes first to a side to see if they can get anything going by themself for a little bit. When things go slow during games he switches to attack mode and can do multiple things such as drive it in, shoot over a shorter defender, and when he gets hot you absolutely cannot contain him.

Much better defender than dirk too but lately he's been carrying so much offense that he is tiring out a bit, but that should change with the full roster back.

shaq averages 2.8 assists in his career, are you gonna tell me his mere presence doesn't make his teammates better ? it's the same here with dirk.
