Default Mile Ilic's development

A few weeks ago he was sent to the DLeague's Colorado team. as a bench player and occasional starter, he has put up rather okay numbers. he scores low, rebounds decent, blocks a good number of shots. yet fundamentally he is not quite there. does not fight for position too well. does not have a great nose for the ball, seems slow and oafish.

what do you think of him? his best scoring game was 14 games in about 20 minutes.

Yep, that's why he's in the D-League. In a couple years, he just might polish those skills enough to come back and help our team.

If you had to compare him to an NBA player who would you have compared him to?

well, Mile ILic makes Collins look light on his feet.

but Ilic has good timing on the blocks and rebounds fairly well. he just needs more polish to his game to avoid being... oh I don't know... the next Sabonis.

Yea you just remember the Sabonis of old. He's probably the greatest russian basketball player of all time. It's too bad he didn't play in the NBA in his 20s. I remember watching him play in the Olympics and Goodwill games in the 80s. He was scary.

So true. Nobody seems to remember because international basketball had not been fully intergrated into the N.B.A. He was extremley athletic as a young man. He was polished in all catagories. He would have been right up there with Ewing & Hakeem. Somebody needs to find that famous clip of him dunking on someone back when he played for Russia. Dow Jones speaks the truth Sabonis was a bad man.

He dunked on a young David Robinson in the '86 Goodwill Games. Robinson fell to the floor. At least we won.

anyway, since Ilic is officially a project, and the Nets went through so much work to get his rights (parting ways with Planninic and purposely keeping a space open, while MicInnis was stilll around, preventing the Nets from making more additions)

he had better pay off some day.

woudln't want him to be a JOhan Petro, Robet Swift, or Saer Sene. what are those Sonics thinking anyywa?
