Default You're the GM!

Let's say we went back in time for a second.

It's the year 2003, and the Knicks are in a slump. James Dolan needs to find a new General Manager in hopes of making the NBA Playoffs, and let's just say that Isiah Thomas was busy screwing with the Toronto Raptors organization so he could not be hired. James Dolan decides to hire you as GM, and says the sky is the limit for you. Get the best player money could buy, because he wants to win now! Spend as much as you want, until you get what you want.

So what do you do? Your two All-Star players (Allan Houston, Latrell "has a family to feed" Sprewell) are rapidly aging, James Dolan and the fans' expectations are rising higher, and you hold the key to the team's future.

2003 Knicks Roster

Shandon Anderson
Michael Doleac
Howard Eisley
Othella Harrington
Allan Houston
Travis Knight
Lee Nailon
Lavor Postell
Latrell Sprewell
Kurt Thomas
Charlie Ward
Clarence Weatherspoon
Frank Williams

Head Coach: Don Chaney

Damn, that lineup really sucked the big ones. I don't know how they won games with that team they had together. Cheeze and crackers!!

Funny how that roster made the playoffs.

Anyways, I said it in the old board...I wouldve just worked through the draft and let contracts expire...slowly rebuilding. By now we couldve had a real good team...instead its just worse.

As bad as people are saying that lineup was, they played as a team and they had 2 allstars. I'd die to have Spreewell and Houston on this team when they were in there primes.

Here's my take on it:

The team's expectations were big, they wanted to win then and there and not wait for the future to draft a possible future All-Star or Hall of Fame caliber player. It would have taken them too long. Four to five years is painful, and you know New Yorkers .

So, what would I do in a situation like this? Trade for a player who dominates the game but kind of worned out his welcome mat for his team, and hope for the best that a trade of scenery is all he needed. T-Mac (Magic), Vince Carter (Raptors), Steve Francis (Rockets), and Stephon Marbury (Suns) all were possible candidates at that time so there were alot of options to choose from. Then after that was done, with the "Money Isin't An Object" rule with James Dolan, I'd just sign some role players and draft a key rookie and start making a playoff push.

I believe their good friend Mr.Chemistry helped them get there.

Kick back and let contracts expire and trade for draft picks only.

Draft good players with college experience and good morals.

Then once I have a roster of good quality players I can make moves.

I'll keep a core of players I like that fit the system.

Hopefully one or even two seasons we are so bad I get very high lottery picks.
