Default Ranking of players in their absolute primes

we've seen a lot of all-time ranking of players....but if we take players in their absolute primes (e.g. hakeem during the rocket's two-peat, bird when he won 3 MVPs), who would be the GOAT? i guess the minimum period for gauging a player's performance for the purpose of this thread should be one year....what do you think?

i actually got this idea from khalid's column on kobe being top ten of all time...someone said something to the effect that hakeem during the rockets' run was the greatest player ever...what do you guys think?

Jordan ('90-'93)
Shaq ('00-'01)
Wilt ('62-65)
Bird ('84-'86)
Kareem ('73-'76)
Magic ('86-'89)
Hakeem ('94-'95)

Kareem and Magic can be switched imo, but that's about it. I definitely have MJ, Bird, Wilt, and Shaq's absolute peaks above Magic's.

Wilt got a ring on the 71-72 Lakers and was a huge force then too.

Yeah, but it wasn't his individual peak. His peak was around '61-'64. I was off a year.

Oscar Robertson (1960-1967) looking at his stas, it no way you can cut those years down.
Julius Erving (71-77)
Clyde Drexler (87-92)

Wouldn't be much different compared to career numbers, except for some players like Russell losing a bit. Obviously, players with short primes would be benefitted.

1-Wilt 1962-67
2-Jordan 1988-93
3-Kareem 1971-77
4-Bird 1984-88
4b-Magic 1987-90
6-Shaq 2000-02
6b-Hakeem 1993-96
8-Oscar 1961-66
9-Russell 1962-65
10-West 1965-70
11-Erving 1972-76/Baylor 1960-63

can anyone think of any player who wouldn't generally be thought of as an all-time great but whose prime would compare favorably with the primes of some all-time greats? i think bernard king and ray richardson would come into mind...

I cant help thinking that if all of the players were leaders of NBA teams in their prime in the same season, Shaq's team would win the chip.

You gotta admit, takin down Prime Deisel and his squad would be tough.

Bill Walton in the NBA. Basically, his great years were: 1977, 1978...
