Default How do you cook pancakes evenly?

My pancakes always turned out without the uniform darker brown circle on each side.

Instead of this:

...I get this:

*How do I cook them so they more evenly brown? Do I need thinner batter and a significantly hotter cooking surface? I don't have a griddle, so I just cook them in a pan

Might have to do with the feel and quality of the pan, as well as how much butter/oil you use. And how smooth the batter is.

I take my pancakes very seriously.

ya i never seem to have a problem with it. Just make the batter pour on a skillet and after it hardens on the bottom flip it over on the other side.

Goto IHOP or Denny's they make it better and they have a variety of syrup.
