Kobe Bryant has privately asked the Lakers to make a run at Clips free agent guard Sam Cassell, according to AM 570's David Vassegh. Cassell would like to return to the Clippers but so far they haven't given him more than a one-year offer.

If Sterling decides he wants to be a cheapskate again by letting Sam go he's going to end up ****ing his team over. He needs to open up the wallet until Livingston's ready to start.

i agree, brad. sam ran the clippers this year, with his veteran leadership. i prefer to see sam with the lakers though.

a few weeks ago Cassel was on Quite Frankly and he said he isn't sure if he'll be a Clipper next season. He is looking for a 2 year deal and Clippers don't want to sit Shaun Livingston for another 2 years. SAS asked him what about the Lakers and he said Lakers are a possibility. He loves LA, he would just be worried about what the Clipper fans would think. He also said he talks to KG a lot and hes told him he deserves better and he hopes he gets out Minny.

Lakers better sign Sam Cassell to a 2 year deal, do it Mitch!

Lakers 2006/2007

Starting:
Kobe
KG
Sam
Walton
Kawme

Bench:
Brian Cook
Mo Evans
Farmar
Smush
Laron
Ronny
Sasha

That team can compete with SA, Suns, Mavs

Sam would help the lakers a lot. He's a big improvement over Smush. He can hit the open 3s that Kobe will get because of double teams. He won't fall apart in the playoffs like Smush did.

Honestly Sterling letting go of Sam and possibly Radmanovich just boggles my mind. The clippers have a bright future with Livingston but he's not ready for primetime yet IMO. I mean Radmanovich and Cassel ARE their 3 point shooting. Letting go of these guys would be an awful move. Cassel was their clutch guy, he was their 3 point shooter, he was their veteran leader. And they are going to let that go because they don't want to give him an extra year? WTF.

if the clippers let sam and rad go, they're back to square 1. i don't think livingston can lead the clippers, not yet. brand and maggette are good solid players, but without sam cassell, they won't go far.

what's interesting to me is how kupchak has been sounding during interviews.

he sounds like they are going to try to get a guard via trade. we are carrying a lot of guards on our roster.

this is off the lakers website:

54 Kwame Brown F-C 6-11 248 03/10/1982 Glynn Academy HS (GA) 5
8 Kobe Bryant G 6-6 220 08/23/1978 Lower Merion HS (PA) 10
17 Andrew Bynum C 7-0 275 10/27/1987 St. Joseph HS (NJ) 1
43 Brian Cook F 6-9 258 12/04/1980 Illinois 3
Maurice Evans G 6-5 220 11/08/1978 Texas 3
Jordan Farmar ** G 6-2 180 11/30/1986 UCLA R
3 Devean George (FA) G-F 6-8 235 08/29/1977 Augsburg 7
11 Devin Green (FA) G-F 6-7 210 10/25/1982 Hampton 1
24 Jim Jackson (FA) F-G 6-6 220 10/14/1970 Ohio State 14
2 Aaron McKie G 6-5 209 10/02/1972 Temple 12
31 Chris Mihm C-F 7-0 265 07/16/1979 Texas 6
7 Lamar Odom F 6-10 230 11/06/1979 Rhode Island 7
1 Smush Parker G 6-4 180 06/01/1981 Fordham 3
21 Ronny Turiaf F 6-10 249 01/13/1983 Gonzaga 1
18 Sasha Vujacic G 6-7 195 03/08/1984 Slovenia 2
23 Von Wafer G 6-5 210 07/21/1985 Florida State 1
4 Luke Walton F 6-8 232 03/28/1980 Arizona 3

i'd hope w/all these guards we're going to move some of them for a true starter.

Mitch is on the radio now, sounds like a trade will go down also. Mo Evans will be LA defensive stopper and 3 pt shooter.

Mitch says he got 10 or more calls concerning Lamar via signed and trade.
