Default Call travel on a clear path breakaway?

okay so I like to run the break a lot.

on one play, once the opponent got a shot off, I raced downcourt. my teammate got the rebound and hurled it downcourt to me. no defender was near me, it was a clear path.

the only problem is I caught the ball with my right hand when I was on the left side of the basket and I wanted to shoot left off glass, rather than try to float it in, but that split second of hesitation made me take an extra step before I awkwardly put it in on a reverse off the wrong leg.

then the guy I was guarding who did not like how hard I was playing defense on him called travel on me.

i challenged and said I'll shoot for iot. I stroke the 3. he missed it, but then he kept mouthing off about how it's the nature of the rules, etc...

then I let him have it.

hell, if he had done that, I would have counted it.

this is a pick up game, right? yeah this shouldnt have been called, he must have been frustrated over your defense. general rule in pick up is basically no harm no foul and very very leniant on carrying and travelling.
