Default Re: What should the Knicks do?

Okay, here is my 3 step fool proof plan to making it all better.

1. Trade Francis for anything possible. If that can't be done, waive him.

2. Package Channing Frye and our first round rookie pick for either Ben Wallace or Ron Artest. Assuming it's Ben Wallace, make him the starting power forward. He does everything Eddy Curry doesn't, nor does he demand the ball. He will add an extra toughness to the Knicks, as well as a guy who knows how to win.

If it's Ron Artest, make David Lee the starting power forward, and Artest the starting small forward. Artest is arguably the best defensive swing man in the NBA. He will drastically change the atmosphere of the Knick's defense, and doesn't compromise us offensively the way Ben Wallace does.

3. Package Nate Robinson and Randolph Morris to the Wolves for Trenton Hassell. Nate Robinson is a terrific talent, but he isn't the type of player we need right now. Trenton Hassell plays defense, and doesn't demand the ball. His height is an added plus over Nate Robinson. Trading Randolph Morris is going to be hard, but the fact is, in order for him to be effective, he is going to need a lot of minutes. Those minutes should be reserved for Renaldo Balkman, a kid who has proven that he deserves those minutes.

These steps will make the Knicks one of the better defensive teams in the league, as well as a team that can hold it's own offensively(Marbury, Curry, Crawford, Richardson, Artest*) If somehow these measures are taken, I think the Knicks can be a 45 win team.

Projected Depth Chart(Ron Artest)
PG-Stephon Marbury/Mardy Collins
SG-Jamal Crawford/Quentin Richardson
SF-Ron Artest/Trenton Hassell/Malik Rose
PF-David Lee/Renaldo Balkman
C-Eddy Curry/Jared Jeffries/Jerome James

Projected Depth Chart(Ben Wallace)
PG-Stephon Marbury/Mardy Collins
SG-Jamal Crawford/Trenton Hassell
SF-Quentin Richardson/Renaldo Balkman
PF-Ben Wallace//David Lee/Malik Rose
C-Eddy Curry/Jared Jeffries/Jerome James

1. no one is going to trade for francis
2. channing frye and our first pick(around 20th) will get us nowhere near what we need for those guys. maybe artest only if theyre desperately trying to get rid of him, but frye makes around 3 mill. wallace makes 15 and artest makes prob around 8.
3. minnesota would probably do this, but why would we

Rather than have any stability you guys want to make quick fix trades. This thread is exactly why the Knicks have never done a flat out rebuilding.

to rebuild you must take away and in order to take away in the NBA you have to do exchanges.... unlike the NFL you dont trade players for straight up draft picks... which is rediculous IMHO...

also I think the roster has 14 guaranteed contracts so he has to make a move in order to do the draft unless they send someone to the NBDL

What you guys are suggesting is not rebuilding. Rebuilding is having a firm understanding of where you want to be, what you have, and what you are missing.

No one has a clue what the Knicks truly have yet. No team in the NBA has gone through as many roster and coaching changes as the Knicks have in the last five years.

Everything except #3 on the Shafir's list is rebuilding. Get rid of player's who don't have a good enough upside and work from there. I personally would like to try to get JO instead of Artest, but it would take a lot more to get him...

The only reason I don't like #3 is because little Nate seems to be getting better actually. Unlike Frye, James, Rose, and some others, he's actually working on his game. And Morris could be good. Plus, I'm not that impressed with Hassell. Especially since we're gonna have Collins, Balkman, Jeffries, and Artest on the same team. No need to be redundant...

We now have a pretty solid team that is a great team to work with for the next couple of years.

Good scorers
Good defenders
Good role-players
Hopefully not too many egos
