Default Mike Reiss: "Robert Griffin III is the 2nd best QB on his team"

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/new-e...fl-patriots-19

3. One of my biggest takeaways from Patriots-Redskins joint practices was surprise that Robert Griffin III didnĺt look like the best quarterback on his own team. In fact, I thought Kirk Cousins was better than him, from the perspective of running the offense, fine-tuned mechanics and how decisively the ball came out of his hand. I wondered if I was alone, and then heard the same sentiment echoed by some others in the Patriots organization.

What a disaster of a trade that will be if RG3 isn't the QB 3 years from now.

Here's the complete trade:

Redskins Get:
RGIII

Rams Get:
DT Micheal Brockers
RB Isaiah Pead
OL Rokevious Watkins,
CB Janoris Jenkins
WR Stedman Bailey
LB Alec Ogletree
RB Zac Stacy
OT Greg Robinson

Obviously the Redskins didn't give up all of those picks, but the Rams used the picks the Redskins gave them in the RGIII trade to make other trades that ultimately yielded them all of those players. The Rams got 6 starters out of that original RGIII deal. It's an absurd haul.

It'd be nice if Cousins was really that great but he had has his chance last couple games last season.

He ended up killing whatever trade value he had

Man oh man... that is insane.

I remember expressing relief on here when the Browns had their trade offer topped by the Skins. I wasn't sold on RG3 going into that draft, but then after his rookie year, I assumed my "scouting" was off. Well, now things seem to be back in doubt. My biggest concern with RG3 was always injury and I have the same issues with Manziel.

If you play the quarterback position in the NFL and rely on your legs for more than just an occasional scramble or play extension, you better be built like Ben Roethlisberger or know how to get down really quickly.

Otherwise, you are a hard hit away from having to alter the way you play forever. RG3 has seemingly not been the same QB since that inevitable hit in his rookie year. Whether it is a physical change or mental realization that he can't do what he did in high school or Baylor on this level, he has had to adapt his game. And, that may have taken away some of the things that made him a special player.

I hope the same thing doesn't happen to Manziel, but my fears weren't exactly lessened after his first preseason game. He still runs too damn much.

As for the Luck/RG3 draft, it was heralded as one of the best in modern history at the time, especially at the top. Here we are a couple years later and only Luck stands tall. Richardson is almost officially a bust and RG3 may ultimately fall in that pile as well.

The NFL is a team game. peyton manning coming out of college wasnt worth all of that.

Yet the Rams have gone nowhere since their QB stinks. Of course it was too much to give up, but it's too early to give up on RG3. I think it's safe to say he'll never be in that elite tier, but the tier after that is certainly possible. He definitely needs to learn how to protect his body, for sure.

It's not the QB stinking Bradford was great last year, he may be injury prone but he doesn't stink

The Rams refuse to get him a decent WR...who is the best WR Bradford has had in his career? Danny Amendola?...it's absolutely ridiculous what he has had to throw at.

They also have consistently had one of the worst olines in the league since drafting Sam...really he has been in probably the worst situation a QB could possibly be in.

The Rams are nearing the point where the Seahawks were a few years ago. They were winning 4-5 games a year before going 7-9 a couple times, but the talent was building and building... you could just feel that they were the right coach and a good QB away from being a force.

That's a pretty good place to be and they owe a lot of it to the trade with Washington. If given the choice right now, I wouldn't trade Greg Robinson alone for RG3. Then again, I think he has Orlando Pace upside.

I want to say the Rams will be a Wildcard team this year...they aren't winning that division, or winning a SB, but they have playoff potential now.

I knew what was coming, Bradford had nice TD numbers but they were clearly unsustainable over a full season with his yardage totals. It was a fluke, and his peak performance netted a 3-4 record. I agree they made the right move, and could snag a WC this year, but doesn't it say something that that's their ceiling, at least for this year?

Eh, one of the biggest reasons that is their ceiling is just because they are in the same division as the Seahawks who are too young and dominant to drop down a notch.

The Rams are a better team right now than the Redskins are...

rams are closer to a SB imo than the redskins.

Just that the nfc east is so weak anyone can win it. NFC west is insane.

Yet still no QB that can have them finish anything other than last in the division, although that may change this season.
