Default Who should be Knicks starting SG?

With training camp less than two months away, we’re examining the burning questions facing the New York Knicks.

Today’s question: How should Derek Fisher divide minutes among his shooting guards? And who should start at shooting guard?

Unless they make a trade, the Knicks will enter the season with three players who can make a strong case for the starting shooting guard spot: Tim Hardaway Jr., J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert.

Let's see- 1 of them is a 2 way player and head and shoulders better than either of the 1 way players.

With an actual system in place there is no longer a reason to stagger your top offensive players. They will be better served learning to play together

I am interested in hearing a case made as to why anyone would start hatdaway though- I see it everywhere but don't know how it could be justified

I would start Hardaway over J.R. - Smith has proven he's a loose cannon, and Tim is in the right spot for the new system. He looked great in Vegas.

And hard away has proven he doesn't defend, pass, or rebound. 3 things JR does.

I didn't figure to hear a logical argument for Hardaway. Jr is a better player and a better fit for the starting lineup.

Logically, his name is Hardaway, not "hard away".

And you're basing this on 1 year of playing with a lame coach?

We will continue to agree to disagree.

JR is inconsistent in every aspect of basketball, calling him a two way player is an insult to the ones who truly are. Let this inefficient clown chuck away off the bench in already decided blowouts which is where he excels. JR has all the tools from a talent standpoint but no brains to apply them in games constently.

Imo it's Shumpert's nod to get it. Defensively he's the best guard on the team anf they will need it with Calderon starting.

Hardaway actually should take the sixth man role away from JR.

The most talented player is JR this goes without saying. But his chucking ways and brain farts are just too hard to excuse.

I'd rather Hardaway start and develop. If JR or Shump shows enough to earn it so be it. I cant honestly say with confidence that JR is capable of showing self control. Depending on who the other starters on the floor are I cant see Shump starting. Shumps offense is terrible and his defense hasnt been that special consistently since the injury.

Start Hardaway let him develop. Jr 6th man and Shump defensive specialist. Unless 1 of them are moved or prove otherwise I can deal with this.

Developing a rotation player is more important than the development of the team? Like just can't imagine that winning games won't be important to Phil and fisher. I don't think Phil lied to Carmelo, and I don't think Carmelo signed on to wast another year or 3

JR is clearly the most talented but the least reliable. Shumpert has the most heart and plays the most defense, but is inconsistent. Tim has the most potential and ironically(considering he's a rookie) may be the most consistent, but doesn't play defense and needs to improve his decision making. Fish has an interesting decision on his hands

For me the starter is quite clearly Iman.
Considering we have José "no defencia" Calderon as our starting PG...

I wouldn't say "clearly" but I think I'd lean toward Iman as well.

The only way I could even consider starting Iman is if Fish starts Caldy, Bargs, Stat, Melo. That would be one of the worse defensive line ups in creation.

Iman hasnt been that great defensively since his injury so I dont see whats the point of pushing Iman to start personally. I'd still rather have Hardaway Jr. get better since he probably is the future SG unless they get an upgrade.

It is insane that none of you value talent or balance. You are asking for more ISO ball.

You want to purposefully avoid the best players playing with each other an extra quarter of games? But you'll expect them to know how to play together at the end of games though right?

Jr and bargnani need to play with Carmelo. As much as possible. Role players should learn to play a role.

Why give other teams a break if you don't have to?

The whole team is role players... The only 2 legit players are Melo, a healthy Stat, then Caldy. Everyone else arent going to start on any other NBA team. So its not about role players because they all are role players. Every single player is flawed.

What do other teams players have to do with how the Knicks should use their players?

Haha at the Amare part.
