Having had knee surgery before defense is the last thing that comes back and i doubt you really want to push your knee on defense every game against nba players if it isnt 100% or even close.

Kobe averages 35 a game gets 1st team all defense...next year he has surgery comes back fat and out of shape with his knee clearly not 100 percent--his defense falls off--but people attribute to him scoring more when he is averaging 5 points less then when he made 1st team last year. Explain the logic in that.

Either way Tmac is better now defensively.

i see what you are saying. but his knees haven't seemed to slow him down on the offensive end at all? he seems just fine. i am still inclined to believe that so much energy goes into the offense that the defense lags. maybe a combination of the 2

yes they have and that why im hoping he can get his knee stronger. The reason he is having more trouble geting the ball this year is because he isnt able to finish those back door opps the same as last year and is getting overplayed because of it. He also doesnt get the same lift on his jumper consistently.

Kobe was never the defender people loved to make him out to be during the Shaq years[also the Dynasty years], and now, since he doesn't have the Big Fella behind him, or any legitimate big man, he's getting exposed when players get past him, as they had before with the Shaq years, but they also had to face Shaq. Now, T-Mac has Yao behind him along with Deke, so if someone is to get past him, they have to face the best player in the L today at altering shots, or a damn good shot blocker. Neither Kobe's nor T-Mac's defense is 'great'.

Thats why Jordan was so good because be able to carry the scoring and at the same time be a hell of a defender.

Thats why good team always have a defensive stopper that do the dirty job with out having to worry about fouls and stamina, more when you need your legs to shoot those late jumpers.

Today in 610 radio in Houston JVG said that T-Mac can be a 1st team defender anytime he wants, he got the size, length and basketball IQ but he don't want him to play so hard all 82 games but you definitely going to see him play hard at the defensive end, late in game and definitely in the playoff. He also said that he don't want him guard the other team best player early in the game because the Refs are always trying to control the game early, and the they will call any marginal contact but as the game progress the will let the players play.

Yes he has. You'll be seeing a much more different T-Mac in the playoffs, he'll be bodying up his opponent so badly that they won't know what hit them.

Don't let T-Mac having the benefit of playing with Yao and Dikembe behind him versus Kwame and Bynum for Kobe. Tracy knows if he gets beat, he has backup, while Kobe doesn't.

Tmac didn't have either one back when he played with the Raptors.

So that doesn't mean People blow by Tmac that often.

If Yao didn't have good defenders in front of him, players like Tmac, Battier, and C. Hayes, he wouldn't be able to stay in the game defensively, becuase he would always be in foul trouble.......Tmac is still a better defender, he's also a better distributor.

Question asked had he surpassed, as I don't think he did because I always believed Tracy was a better defender, but for those who want to say he surpassed need to look at all the facts.

I know they don't, but Tracy, as opposed to Kobe, knows that if his man beats him, he has someone behind him who can alter/block the shot, while Kobe doesn't anymore. About him being a better distributor has nothing to do with this topic, because being a better passer, does not make you a better defender, if it did, Nash should be DPoy.

You do realize I put AND DIKEMBE, right? Don't act as if Deke is a slouch, he's the best backup Center in the league[ahead of 'Zo yeah], and would start on most teams, granted he won't be able to play starters minutes the entre year.

If he does not have someone behind him like Yao Ming or Deke wouldn't that inspire him to play better defense?
