Default Kevin Willis back?

Quote:
Big man on the way...maybe
The Mavericks are going to bring in Kevin Willis for a workout on Thursday to find out if he might be a viable option for their vacant roster spot.

This is a sign of how shallow the pool of available big men is. Willis is 44 and while he was one of the most remarkably svelte athletes in the game when he was playing, the 7-footer has been retired since the end of the 2004-05 season. He won a championship with San Antonio in 2003 and last played for Atlanta.

Willis played 20 seasons before his retirement.

YAY! Time to bring out my new avatar!

god, I hope not...

Mavs should try and talk Keith Van Horn into coming back over Kevin Willis

Isn't it kind of unfair for these old retired players to try and hop onto a top tier team at the end of a season just for the sake of a championship?

Kevin Willis already has a championship. With Mbenga out, the Mavs need any big man they can find.

You're missing the point here. Willis, Pippen, etc.. nba players grind out an 82 game nba season and a retired vet wants to jump in on a team that's already good, and thus take an enormous shortcut to reach the goal of a championship. Why doesn't Jordan just un-retire and join the Bulls for the playoffs?

Sweet! This will help offset the loss of Michael Olowokandi on my fantasy team!

Hmm. Interesting. He would give them a 3rd big man in the playoffs, so maybe it could be good after all.

Well, it's not like Kevin Willis will get paid like other players who have to grind it out for an 82 game season.

What I'm saying is Kevin Willis isn't merely "jumping on a team that's already good, taking a shortcut to reach the goal of a championship". He already has a championship so he's not simply bandwagoning for the sake of a championship. He just wants to play basketball again, and the mavs could really use a Kevin Willis with Mbenga out.

Suppose the mavs were a 5-8 seed. In the same situation, I'm sure the mavs would still look at someone like Willis, and Willis would want to play even though the team is not a top-tier team.

I can't believe people are hating on Kevin Willis! The guy is fantastic, and I further love this news because I posted several times this season that I wanted the Raptors to sign him, claiming "Kevin is probably still in better game shape than half the league." Well look who was right

It's unfair for free agents to sign with teams who are interested in them WHEN they are interested in them?

No, not really.

Yeah, cuz we all know he's gonna play 30 minutes a game and avegerage 20-10. ease up, the guy hasn't played a second yet and he's 44!! he's not gonna suddenly come back as prime Willis.

Dwight Howard is a LOT like Kevin Willis.

Take a look at some of Willis' best years for a possible glimpse into the near future.
