Are we going to see players playing well into their mid 40s?
Barring any injuries, are we gonna see this generation of player's abilities stretch into their mid 40s?
With all the talk of Pippen, Reggie Miller, Alan Houston, Kevin Willis, all deciding to make comebacks. I think today's younger players will have the physical capabilities of retiring at an older age.

1. 43 is not only. No NBA player has played at such an advance age and had a significant role on the team. Robert Parish's appearance with the Bulls was a mere cameo.
2. 25 years of getting banged up every night would have a very negative effects on one's body. Especially for a center. Knee problems galore.
3. Bynum can shape up all he wants, but I think carrying all that extra weight has already done its damage on his lower body.

I can't believe players can still compete in their thirties....Basically every physical attribute you need in basketball (muscular power, muscular strength, reflexes, speed) begins to decline at about 23.
I guess basketball IQ and experience mask the detrimental effects of ageing.

Ive studied physiology for years.
"at age 25, people start going downhill-they decline about one percent per year on a host of measures of physiological functioning and physical performance until they hit their mid-60s. Then the hill gets steeper, and the rate of decline increases.
This one percent rule is not someone's fanciful theory. It has been borne out by numerous studies over the years."
Recent studies suggest the decline begins earlier.

no i think you'de see a lot of HS to pro's people retire earlier than previous players. you have to think your body can only take so many seasons of punishment no matter when you start. can you imagine lebron playing until 40 i can't...amare playing at 40? these guys might retire at 35ish.

No way, his knees are gonna be crunchy like potato chips by then. Twenty two years in the NBA is no joke.
Only way a guy can play into his 40's will be if he's a defensive PF/C like DD, Cliffy, Deke, and if he's to make it past 40 he'll have to have been a 4 year college player, and possibly ride the pine a couple years into his NBA stint other wise it's too many games on a players body.
I can't imagine these high school man-children aren't gonna suffer when they retire. Greg Oden, LeBron, and Amare maybe 18-20 but their bodies are obviously aging at an increased rate, and on top of it they join the league at 18 and, playoffs withstanding, they play ~200 more games than college grads at age 22.
