The difference in experience (no necessarily age is amazing). I'm talking about grad. school and folks here are talking about undergrad. acceptance. I feel old man!

Just wanted some advice from you seniors on what colleges I could get into, I've got a 4.2 Gpa (3.9 unweighted) and I'm going to a competitive private high school. I'm a little low on extra-curriculars like sports but I did do band for two years, I've played out of school in rec leagues since freshmen year, I've coached 3 different youth basketball teams, and taught at a sunday school for middle schoolers this year. Neither of my parents completed college, I'm 1st generation american and yeah thats all that really matters I guess.

I want to get into med school eventually and all my Sci grades are A's.

I was planning on applying to the following:
Stanford
NYU
USF
John Hopkins
UCLA
UCSB

Which of these universities do you guys think I could get into?

University of Oklahoma: Accepted ($2,500 scholarship)
Colorado School of Mines: Accepted
Texas A&M University: Accepted
University of Texas: CAP which means attend a school like UTDallas, UTSA, UTArlington for a year then transfer to UT.

I sort of wanted to go to UT but sort of didnt. Dont think I would get a lot of work done since its such a big city with a lot of stuff to do.
**** the top 10% rule too (Ask if you dont know).

I am going to Texas A&M though. Already accepted their invitation. I am doing petroleum engineering and Texas A&M is No. 1 in the US and probably No. 1 in the world.

the official reason why Asians and Jews are not given minority status is because they are not an "underrepresented minority."

this is the reason because they have money from their "family jewels."

No they are not.

I go to Cornell...do you know how many F-ing Jews there are here? Vast majority are rich b&tchy kids from Long island.

They might be a minority, but they are certainly not considered a minority when it comes to college admissions. Only "under-represented minorities" may play a large role in admissions...and these are usually limited to things such as:

1. 1st generation low income college student
2. American Indian/African American/Latino, particularly in technical fields such as engineering and medicine.

Are you referring to college admission terms or in general?

BTW, Nader I was speaking in general terms, I don't know about college admissions.

my sister goes to Cornell. I've visited before.

Seems like every Asian there is from Long Island, NYS, or NYC (possibly takin advantage of the CALS school discount for NYS residents)

Also seems like everyone comes from well to do families.

And the African Americans are ALL decent hardworking people.

Southwestern Oklahoma State: accepted

Offered me a spot on their soccer team so I took the spot. I recieved a full-ride academic so he had no need to give me an athletic scholarship. My coach said he would have given me a half scholarship if I had not recieved the academic. But I did so no sweat!

Yeah I'm new to posting here, I've read these forums for a few months now but I never posted til now. I already have people I like and dislike. :

What schools you get into has something to do with what state you are in too
even if it's school lets say Stanford, most of their students will still be from West Coast

I'm Asian and I have this friend of mine who's half black and ofcourse she filled her self as African American while applying for schools

so I did more out of class activities than her
had a high GPA when applying for school (I just didn't give a crap after AP test)
had a good 150+ on her on SAT

She got into Notre Dame
and I didn't even get waitlisted

my ACT score was 34 math 35 science social 22 english 23
total of 29
GPA was 3.8

Oh well...

because Asians are expected to get 1600s on teh SATs (or 2400 on the new ones) get 800 on the SAT IIs, write the quintessential college essay, get straight As, be on the math team, be on the science team, get the whole variety of extracurriculars done, but above all do not be a gangster, etc.

unfair? do what my Asian housemate does and form a political caucus on campus.

wasn't implying you were doing nothing. as long as you are active and trying to help, then that's a noble gesture in itself.
