They can trade his rights yeah. Then the other team would have to sign him. Example, Rudy Gay is going to Memphis, but the deal is yet to be official because the details aren't worked out yet.

Ya u dont remember when francis DEMANDED lol to b traded out of Vancouver n thats one of the main reasons i feel Vancouver lost there franchise...think about it Francis..Bibby..micheal dickerson (who fell off the map but was good) and Shareef and this was when Shareef was supposidly suppose to b a big thing ..that woulda been Big!

lol. Stevie Franchise? More like Stevie Franchise Killer. He single handedly cost Vancouver their team, and theres no other way to say it. Nobody else wanted to go there after the whole incident. They couldn't get anyone to play for them, so they didn't win games, so they didn't get good attendance, and didn't have money. That equals a franchise being sold and moving.

Steve Francis should have just sucked it up and played ball. He is a baby. So he got drafted to a team he didn't want to go to. He cost Vancouver the team as previously said. I hate Francis for that. I loved it when we could watch the battle of the Canadian teams.

i honestly dont think theres any market in Canada, except Toronto of course, that can have a successful NBA franchise. The biggest thing that hits these teams is the Canadian Taxes. Because they are considered a business, they get crazy taxed, and in the US they dont get taxed as bad...so a city had to be economically strong for an NBA team to be there

Another huge reason is the demographics of the region. Basketball will not be popular in montreal, in quebec a french speakin province. Hockey rules there and theres not much room for basketball. expos eventually died and moved. The only way Canada gets another franchise is Vancouver does it again.

If Halifax had more of a population it would be a great place for a franchise. It's a great city and the people there really love their basketball. You can hardly drive up any street without seeing at least 1 basketball.
But agreed, the market in most Canadian cities isn't good enough to support a franchise. Somewhere down the road however, yuo never know.

you can trade his rights before he signs a contract, if he signs then I believe you have to wait 3 months to trade him.

Bargnani signed the other day therefore he cant be traded until the end of September.

I agree, I would love for us to have a team in Halifax, but there is definitely not enough people to make it work.
