I think they're obviously going for that low budget cult-classic feel, but the question is, can you create a cult classic, or does it just happen?

This movie is certainly not low budget, they also intentionally rubbed dirt into and scratched the emulsion surface of the film to add that "dirty" and ages feel to it. I think thats's a very cool move/idea and it's very noticable if you know it's there.

Tarantino is a hack though, creative ideas but he copies others' work to accomplish his. I would love to have his career success however. I don't see what makes Rodriguez so special, can someone fill me in?

Rodriguez is a pretty good director. He's not one of my absolute favorites like Tarantino, Scorsese, the Coen brothers or Spielberg but I think he makes entertaining movies. He wrote/directed Desperado, directed From Dusk Till Dawn which was written by Quentin, directed The Faculty (which was actually pretty cool) and directed Sin City as well. So he has some good movies out there.

I didn't realize he did Sin City, I've only heard his name associated with Spy Kids and Once Upon a Time in Mexico (I think).

If you appreciate great directing Conan, check out Milos Forman, Terrence Malick, Stanley Kubrick, Francis Coppola, Alfred Hitchcock (of course), and more recently Clint Eastwood. Malick is underappreciated because it seems like he directs once every 10 years, but always has great cinematography. Fantastic artist.

It's got my girl Rosario Dawson in it so i might have to check it out. Looks like a lot of blind, meaningless action though lol

Oh yeah, I really like Kubrick, Coppola and Eastwood. I've seen some of Hitchcock's movies and enjoyed them as well. I'll have to check out Terrence Malick. And Clint Eastwood is one of my favorites. Unforgiven is his best, IMO but he's also directed some incredible movies recently including Mystic River and Million Dollar Baby.

Have you seen any Coen brothers movies? They did Raising Arizona, Fargo, The Big Lebowski, O Brother Where Out Thou, etc.

I saw it Wedensday and it was sweet. It is definitely big budget, and both movies were hilariously entertaining.

And they definitely did not rub dirt into the print, they're digital effects.

Well, he is prolly a little overrated and living off the fumes of 2 movies that are 10-15 years old. Kill Bill brought him back, and Death Proof was awesome even if the first 20 minutes are a tad slow with the annoying tarantino dialoggue.

Even though Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction are two of my favorite movies I'd have to agree that he is overrated. I'd like to see him make another movie with his old friend Roger Avary who helped him work on Pulp Fiction.
