Yao? Going to the playoffs

Tyson? Just missed the playoffs (however with the full NOK team they would be able to make it.

Curry? Really has come along this season and proven that he can be an inside target. His rebounding numbers really aren't as bad as people think they are.

Anyway, 3 of my picks ARE going to be in the playoffs, and one or both of the my other picks will most likely be in the playoffs next year.

This thread is about Marcus Camby being the best center this season. Unfortunately, without offense, he's not the best center. Not even close, for the simple reason that he's ineffective on offense.

I said before, he's only so good on defense because his whole team sucks. Thus, inflating his rebounding and blocking stats. If you actually watch him play, you'll see the reason he gets as many blocks and boards as he does.

Update: In the Lakers game today, he has 2 points (1-9 shooting) and 20 out of his teams 46 boards, or about 40%. Along with 6 blocks. *game still going*

Good defense (because no one else is actually playing defense). Bad offense.

we don't need his offense.. 22 rebounds 7 blocks thats what we need

Camby just had 22 boards against the Lakers. How on Earth is he not the best center this season? He gets my vote!
Go Nuggets!

1-9 shooting?
3 points the entire game?
1-2 on free throws, and only because he was the worst free throw shooter out and Laker's had to foul someone.

And in your quote you made it seem like Laker's are a good team, and 22 rebounds is an accomplishment. Laker's aren't that great of a rebounding team. Even Eddy Curry, who's apparently a bad rebounder had more then his average against the Laker's

Thats what gets your vote for Best center this season?

Man, Nuggets fans are biased.

Arguably, most consistent play influences anyone more then anything.

Chandler
12.4 REB / 0.9 AST / 0.5 STL / 1.8 BPG / 9.5 PPG
Status: injured
Playoffs: no

Camby
11.7 REB / 3.2 AST / 1.2 STL / 3.2 BPG / 11.1 PPG
Status: healthy
Playoffs: yes?

I won't lie Chandler is having a good breakout season but I think Camby played better consistently by the tail.

Don't waist your time defending CAmby. The boy has Chandler on the brain. Perhaps we can invite Tyson to watch a playoff games to see how a center can totally dominate a game while scoring only 3 pts.

Wouldn't you agree though, if Stojakovic, Chandler, Paul and West were all healthy that the Hornets would most likely make the playoffs?

Have a look at recent numbers. Chandler has become a great player recently. The first couple months he wasn't doing so well because of foul trouble and because the Hornets really had no chemistry. Now, though, he's playing great basketball.

Knick fan here rumaging other boards, and I have to say I agree with you guys on Camby. I loved him as a Knick and if he has gotten his injuries set aside for good. The guy is one of the best "centers" in the league.

The idea that Camby is only good on defense because his other teammates are so bad is an embarassing statement. The guy is an anchor in the middle and allows his other teammates to gamble because they know that Camby is on the help side if they get beat. His teammates may not be very good defensively but that does not take away from how great a defensive player Camby is.

Camby was never a huge offensive player. He has slightly above average jumpshot for a center but he does not look to take over a game offensively. With Carmelo and AI the last thing you would want is a center who thinks he needs to get 15-20 shots a game, which is why Camby works so well in Denver.

As a Knick fan right now there is no way you can say that Curry is better than Camby. Curry is a better offensive player but he does not play defense and his basketball IQ is very low right now. Just my thoughts.

Shaq is better than Mehmet and Camby. But for this season, yeah they're better I guess.

1. Marcus Camby, Denver

SPG - 1.3
BPG - 3.2
D RPG - 9.4
The numbers speak for themselves as Camby is second to only Kevin Garnett (who is on his way to his fourth-consecutive rebounding title) in defensive boards per game and nobody averages more swats per game than the 11-year center's 3.2. But Camby's greatest asset is his mobility. Most 6-11 players and plod up and down the court, not Camby. He covers ground like a gazelle. The Nuggets are 14-8 this season when Camby has two-plus steals and they are 26-13 when he has three-plus blocks. Camby recorded seven blocks in a game nine times this year, and twice he did it in back-to-back games (four wins against the Knicks and Wizards in December and the Lakers and Jazz in April). More importantly, Camby is able to get up and down the court on one of the league's most potent offenses (fourth in the NBA with a 105.2 ppg average) and still have the energy to make plays on defense. Camby made the Second Team All-Defense the last two seasons and it's about time he gets his proper due.
