Default So long Tim Thomas...

Lakers, Clippers Make Trades
Radmanovic signs with Lakers; Cassell on the way out as Clippers sign Suns' Thomas
By Mike Bresnahan and Jason Reid, Times Staff Writer
4:13 PM PDT, July 1, 2006

The Los Angeles Lakers moved quickly Saturday on the first day of free agency, addressing their need for outside shooting by snatching away a piece from their cross-town rival by agreeing to terms with three-point specialist Vladimir Radmanovic.

The Los Angeles Clippers also reacted quickly after Radmanovic and point guard Sam Cassell apparently reneged on agreements to stay with them, reaching terms with sharp-shooting forward Tim Thomas early Saturday.

Clippers Coach Mike Dunleavy and the representatives of Thomas, a 6-foot-10 forward who revived his career with Phoenix late last season, completed a four-year, $24-million deal Saturday at about 12:30 a.m. The move capped a dizzying three-hour period in which the Clippers were informed Cassell and Radmanovic accepted and then rejected multi-year offers, sources said.

Radmanovic agreed Saturday to a five-year, $31-million contract with the Lakers, the same package the Clippers offered.

"At the conclusion of the moratorium period, the Lakers intend to enter into a contract with Vladimir Radmanovic," Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said.

Radmanovic, who stretches defenses by luring post players away from the basket with his outside shot, has career averages of 10.1 points, 5.4 rebounds and 38.1% shooting from three-point range.

Thomas, a nine-year veteran, who makes his off-season home in Los Angeles, played a key role in the Suns' run to the Western Conference finals. Thomas averaged 14.7 points, 6.1 rebounds and made 37.8% of his three-pointers as Phoenix defeated the Clippers in the semifinals.

Free agents cannot officially sign contracts until July 12.

"At the conclusion of the moratorium period, the Lakers intend to enter into a contract with Vladimir Radmanovic," Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said.

Getting worse for the Suns by the minute, he was SOLID in the playoffs, he is going to be a void. A big man that can shoot.

cassell agreed with the clippers, idk what that article was talkin about. He got offers from atlanta and denver also, but he took the clippers offer when they upped it from 2 years, 11 mill to 13 mill, so they matched the hawks offer.

u guys are in trouble bench wise. U got a great starting 5, but after that its a little thin. Heres ur roster:
pg:nash, barbosa
sg:bell
sf:marion, jones, thompson
pf:diaw
c:stoudemire, thomas, burke

heres a suggestion. U guys want to cut salary. We(philly) have a 5 million trade exception at our disposal. But we also have a guy named john salmons. Hes a versatile guy that can play 1-3, and he won't come too expensive. He's a restricted free agent and we are most likely gonna sign and trade him. Kurt thomas makes a lot of money, especially compared to salmons, so why not trade salmons for thomas in a sign and trade? U dump salary, get another versatile player that likes the uptempo style, and get rid of a guy that doesnt fit in ur system. We need another big guy that plays defense so it helps us too. Lemme kno wut u guys think, because ive actually read this rumor before.

If the Suns don't grab Matt Hapring then I think the bench will be a huge issue again.

Right now the Suns are 8 deep without ANY injury. That isn't deep, especially considering someone always gets hurt come playoff time.

Exclamation !!!!!!

It's very painful to see him go. But, if we would have kept him..we would have had to let Barbosa go. Right now, Thomas is way better then Leandro.
But, in the long run, Barbosa will be worth it. He's younger, faster, and as of now almost as good 3-pt shooter.

IMO... Barbosa is to valuable to let him go.

Thomas was good for the Suns, but still he was a joke in NY, he was a joke in Chicago and part of the time he was a joke in Milwaukee. My prediction is that he will dissapear next year with the Clippers.
