Here is the thing. Its not really that we all think he should have been. Its more of a serves TD right thing. The NBA stuck in the no complaining rule this year and Duncan is one of the biggest whiners in the game. He needed a kick in the pants. Also, Duncan's claim that he never said anything is a flat out lie b/c I was sitting not 10 feet from the Spurs bench for the whole first half and he was indeed pissing and moaning about the calls.

Regardless, Crawford has had this coming to him for a long time and I for one and glad to see a ref who lovs making himself part of the game finally get slapped down.

I actually don't think that any more ref suspensions will happen for a long time. Stern probably will feel like this is a "message" suspension, and that it will solve his problem of Refs gone Wild for the time being.

frankly, an indefinite suspension is bogus. While Crawford is quick with his whistle, Duncan complains about calls more than anybody besides the usual T suspects. I agree that there needs to be a change in how the refs T up players, but lets hope this doesn't just affect Goldenboy Timmy. He was clearly mocking the refs and had been warned. Acting like a petulant child. When sheed gets suspended for talking to a teammate or laughing, nobody bats an eye. But in a situation where Duncan was warned about behavior and then continued it? Crawford is actually one of the better refs outside of his whistle.

That dumbass Crawford finally get it deserved.
Gotta show the league some love for doing the right thing

NBA needs a ref evaluation commitee. To give award/punish the ref on regular basis to prevent this kinda of **** happen again.

NBA Referee Joey Crawford Suspended
Posted Apr 17 2007 1:27PM

NEW YORK, April 17, 2007 NBA referee Joey Crawford has been indefinitely suspended for improper conduct toward Tim Duncan during the San Antonio Spurs at Dallas Mavericks game on April 15, it was announced today by NBA Commissioner David Stern. The conduct included Crawford's assessment of a second technical foul and ejection of Duncan following laughter by the player while he was seated on the bench, and inappropriate comments made to Duncan during the game.

Crawford's suspension will cover at least the remainder of the 2006-07 season, including the NBA Playoffs and Finals.

"Joey Crawford's handling of this situation failed to meet the standards of professionalism and game management we expect of NBA referees," said Stern. "Especially in light of similar prior acts by this official, a significant suspension is warranted. Although Joey is consistently rated as one of our top referees, he must be held accountable for his actions on the floor, and we will have further discussions with him following the season to be sure he understands his responsibilities."

The incidents occurred with 1:04 remaining in the third period of the Mavericks 91-86 win over the Spurs on Sunday, April 8 at American Airlines Center.

The fact that he did this on a national tv game sealed his fate. ABC probably complained

Yup...he was showing up the ref and being sneaky about it. Ask Tim why he was laughing and he wanted to rub Joey Crawford the wrong way. Thats why he continued with it. And while he got ejected he ultimately got the sweeter revenge with Joey being suspended for the rest of the year.

I dont think he should have ejected Tim Duncan but I dont think Joey should be suspended for the rest of the season + entire playoffs. Thats ridiculous but it also falls within the leagues ridiculous actions. Nothing is consistent with the NBA and how they handle issues.

On one hand the suspension keeps other officials on thier toes about going overboard, getting personal...but it was extreme. And the NBA seems to operate with either an extreme example of no example at all. No in between.

Exactly, I can recall the first week of the season when Sheed was hit with T's really quickly for making his "shocked" face, Timmy D had to be pulled away from a ref after a call (not in a violent way, but that he wouldn't stop arguing the call). Timmy D gets a lot more leeway than most other players, so he thinks he can get away with more disrespect to the refs. Clearly Crawford felt he was mocking the officiating and responded. He warned him and he didn't change his beahavior. Its kinda like Breakfast Club where the Teacher starts giving suspensions for saying peep. Its an overreaction to having your authority challenged. If the players don't publicly respect the refs, all of a sudden we have WWF (or whatever it is now) fix conspiracists popping out everywhere.

Only reason Joey was suspended was because of who Tim Duncan is. Stern did nothing when AI was on the other end of a vindictive referee.

AMEN!!!!!

Steve Javie has it in for AI!!

I think this is a great thing for fans of all NBA teams. Crawford's unstable temper can lead to a loss for any team. Refs should not dictate game winners the players should.

Stern is still smarting from all of the issues raised during last year's playoffs regarding the refs ridiculous treatment of Wade. Stern could have done nothing, but every call Crawford made during the playoffs would have been heavily scrutinized. Another option would have been not assigning Crawford to Spur's games in the playoffs, but that would have received a ton of press. Smart move by Stern. I am sure that the Ref's union will appeal, but Stern will stick to his guns.

Thats excellent news, the call on Duncan was ridiculous. Exactly the kind of thing they need to do with the playoffs so close.
