I'm also not much of a stats guy but...

Gasol 20.7 ppg - Amare 20.6 ppg
Gasol 9.7 rpg- Amare - 9.6 apg
Gasol 3.4 apg- Amare 1.0 apg
Gasol 2.2 bpg - Amare 1.3 bpg
Gasol - 2.76 tpg - Amare - 2.82 tpg
Gasol - 53.7 % FG - Amare 57.5 FG
Gasol - 2.30 PF - Amare - 3.60 PF

Gasol pretty much beats him at everything.

Gasol's style would be so much more suitable for the triangle.

if you want the better player, you take Amare.

if you wanna go by all that triangle BS, then go ahead and take Gasol while Amare dominates the league

Amare started out extremely slow. You have to take off a couple of months.

Amare = big time player, excells on the big stage

Pau = shrinks on the big stage and gets abused.

Amare is that much better and more clutch than Pau that the style difference doesnt matter. Pau is not a championship player thats why Chicago didnt trade for him.

Triangle BS has won 9 rings.

What does Amare do so much better than Gasol?

Is he smarter? No. Does he pass better? No. Is he a better rebounder? No.
IS he a better shotblocker? No. Is he a better defender? No.
Is he a better scorer? Yes, you may argue that although he scores less than Gasol and has certain disadvantages over Gasol.

Let's see which team wins championship first. The one where Gasol would fit better or the one where Amare fits better and yes, I'm aware of how good are the Suns and how crappy are the Grizzlies.

Pau didnt even play in the final.... Every playoff series I see Pau getting abused by somebody.

I have never seen any1 abuse Amare in a playoff series... I have seen Amare abuse the GOAT power forward though.

Don't forget about the draft pick they're likely to have. If they draft #4, they could end up with Horford.

The only thing I don't believe about this trade proposal is that Chicago isn't under the cap, and can't help them shed salary. That was supposed to be the whole point of Phoenix dumping one of their great players.

Amare is supposed to get 13.2 million next year. Tyrus (3.5) and Deng (3.3) don't get the trade done, and Chicago doesn't have extra players they could throw in to make it work. Ben Gordon and Chris Duhon aren't really "throw in" players to make a deal work. Sefolosha and Griffin make no money, so throwing them in doesn't help.

If the Bulls trade their draft pick for a future 1st, they might have a couple million of cap space to absorb a little bit, but they'd probably have to dump another couple million to prepare. Dump Duhon and the draft pick to a bad cap space team for an unprotected 2008 first, and they could get this deal done. Bobcats and Grizzlies are probably the only cap space teams who you could expect to be in the lottery in '08. Maybe Atlanta.
