Yeah well that's what people thought last year as well. How does getting Noel and trading Ford for Villanueva make them better?

I like some of Chicagos' players, but they don't look like conference champs yet.

Or is this not an accurate current lineup?

PG Kirk Hinrich - Chris Duhon
SG Ben Gordon - JR Smith
SF Luol Deng - Andres Nocioni
PF PJ Brown - Tyrus Thomas - M.Sweetney
C Ben Wallace - Malik Allen - OHarrington

Hinrich is a top-10 point guard and still has upside. Gordon takes too many shots for a waterbug and disappears every third game or so. I don't see how he can ever be any more than he already is. He can be negated at the defensive end with any team that has an average 2. Deng and Nocioni are both talented but inconsistent. PJ Brown is already shopping for a decent retirement home. Ben Wallace is about 2/3 of what he was in 2002 and declining every year. TT and JR Smith have upside but are huge question marks at this point.

Add Garnett and maybe you have something, but Dallas and Phoenix still have superior lineups. Jury is still out on SA--depending on whether they can sign a big man.

East.

1. Detroit - I still think they got it in them. I never felt that their best player was Ben Wallace, I just felt they all worked well together. I still think they are the team to beat. They have something to prove. Should be interesting.

2. Cleveland - We saw King James in the playoffs last season and it was a thing of beauty. He exceeded my expectations and turned this Bron hater into a....Bron groupie. I think Cleveland is the second best team in the east.

3. Chicago - Their young core is gonna grow up and they always add talent. It's time for them to stop running in place and make the next step and I think this is the season they do it.

4. Miami - Probably one of the worst teams to enter the postseason last season but an easy road to the finals made them look good. Ran into Dallas who all of a sudden got soft and got frustrated when Miami was given every single call in history. One of those teams that never earns anything but instead has it given to them. No youth whatsoever. Even Wade isn't really a young buck.

5. Toronto - I think the Bosh and TJ Ford thing is gonna work out really well. I wanna put the Nets here but I just can't take them seriously enough for that. You hear so much about how the Nets are so awesome and are true contenders. ARE THEY? I don't think so. More like pretenders.

West.

1. Dallas - I don't really want to put them at the top spot with their dissapearing act in the finals, but they did reach the finals and still have the same core of players who got them there and a bit of a chip on their shoulders.

2. Houston - I think Yao and TMac will be healthy and unlike some I think Battier is a great third option behind Yao and TMac. Too much talent at the top for them to be awful again.

3. PHX - I think they will be good but won't be as good as they were 2 seasons ago. Amare WILL NOT be the same. He will take a full season to get back into shape. Second round, tops.

4. San Antonio - You can never count out any team with Duncan on it and Pop coaching, but if they continue to let Parker try and play franchise player they are 1st round and out. I can't tell if Duncan is on the decline or is he was just injured. Either way I think their time at the top is over.

5. Memphis - Just cause I want to see them finally get out of the first round.
