The Hawks needed a point guard and they got one. They need to draft a young point guard next year or throw Salim Stoudamire out there to see if he can run a team.
The Hawks needs to get a center now, and stay away from Jamaal Tinsley. You don't need him anymore. In fact, Speedy is a better get for you anyway. He won't miss 50 games a year.
Jamaal Magloire would be a nice target. You have Harrington and a sign and trade straight up for him would work. And do a sign and trade. The last thing you want is to send a message out that to the players in the league that you won't work with them in getting more money by doing sign and trades. That kind of perception could really hurt you if players take it the wrong way.
I'm not a Hawks fan, but you did as good as you could do with regards to getting an actual point guard.
man thats a good addition, hawks will be pretty sweet like in a couple years, i hope they just get bigger at center, maybe lure in pryzbilla, or do some sort of sign and trade for ben wallace ( yeeee rite, but good idea ), although speedy isnt quite chris paul, i think marvin williams will be a great fit this year or next, plus dont forget, when spurs won that championship in 03, claxton was in most of the time for tony parker
bench: childress, marv williams, tyrone lue, salim stoudamire
and then theyll get a nice piece for al harrington who im very sure will go in a sign-and-trade, so expect another big center to be added, so overall, its a nice squad, and most likely they might move tyrone lue with salim there
The Hawks lack players with range and will therefor suffer. If you got to bring in Lue or Salim everytime a team plays zone defense that's just another reason why Claxton isn't worth anywhere near 6.5 million.
great move for us. He can play D and push the ball with the young guns, without having to dominate the ball in the halfcourt. Plus we are no longer obliged to find a PG in a Harrington SNT. We can go for the best deal
It is a reasonable contract.
Speedy has become a very solid veteran point guard, who can do a lot of things and is unselfish with the basketball.
Hopefully the Hawks can get something good with Al Harrington and Josh Childress - maybe Tyson Chandler and Chris Duhon.
Claxton and Duhon would be a great duo at point guard for the Hawks.
I like Speedy as a player but the problem i have is BK's overall philosophy doesn't seem to be consistent. Last year the reason he cited for not picking Chris Paul was he doesn't like small popint guards and he prefers pgs who are at least 6 foot 2. As a matter of fact he was on the radio last week and he said he wanted a pg who can shoot very well, push the ball and is at least 6 foot 2. Then he turns around and signs a pg who is actually smaller than Chris Paul. There doesn't seem to be any consistency. Once again this is nothing aganst Speedy.
