Damn - now we're finding out that Ben's contract is $60 million over four years. You have to understand the Pistons not matching that. With 8% annual raises, that last year at age 35 could be around $20 million. Hopefully the Bulls convinced him to do a flat contract, or even better, a frontloaded one.

When Larry Brown left the pistons , the first thing ben wallace noticed was how soft coach flip sanders was on defense.

He knows this team is done as for competing for a "CHIP"

Paxson and reinsdorf raises the bulls up again while the rest of the EAST are asleep.

Bulls just paid $60 million for a man who can't score the basketball.

$15 million a season....that's about $1 million per free throw made.

Horrible move by the Bulls. Waste of money. Could have got someone better at half the price with an offensive game.

As for Pistons, can't blame them for not matching, although they should have tried to pull off sign and trade to pick up Chandler if possible.

Ben Wallace = Most overrated player in NBA

Tell me if he is overrated when the Pistons fall apart

I can't remember where, but I read that it's a frontloaded contract. It could be something like $17mil the first couple years and then $13mil the next two, or similar. Hell it could be $20mil the first, $20mil the second, $19mil the third and $1mil the fourth if they wanted.

I don't think that's possible.

The only way to frontload a contract is to put a signing bonus on it and incentives etc.

So Detroit countered with 4yrs $52mil and Chicago upped it to 4yrs $60mil and that was it for Detroit. Bulls just wasted so much money on getting Ben Wallace. Ridiculous

Well, yeah, the minimum is probably more than $1mil.

No it isn't. NBA salaries can be less in later years, Marcus Camby for example makes less in his last year than his second-to-last year.

1. The Bulls got better defensively by a wide margin.
2. The Bulls broke up the Pistons vaunted five.
3. The Bulls will get Brown, who will help defensively. They can still trade for Harrington, and they added Thomas, so their bigs are looking very solid.

Trade scenario:

Atlanta gets

Chris Duhon
Michael Sweetney
Darius Songaila
Future No. 1 pick

Chicago gets

Al Harrington
Ty Lue

Wide margin? What did Tyson NOT do that Ben does do?

At a COSTLY price that will bite them in the ass.

So Ben and Brown are greater at rebounding, blocking shots, defense than Tyson?

Brown IF he is even traded there will be to create cap space due to Tysons deal that was given by who? WHO gave Tyson the deal and are now trying to move the contract? The irony

That trade sucks. You giving up way to much to get a guy in Al Harrington. And Ty Lue is not that much better then Duhon if at all. That future #1 pick shouldnt be dealt for no damn Harrington. It should be kept unless a BETTER player is avaialble upon trade.

Cool 12 mil is 12 mil!

Pat Riley and the Miami Heat must be ecstatic. Returning to the Finals just got easier.

Fifteen mil a year is too much for Big Ben. I like the dude but, Im not sure Ill be willing to pay that much for a one-dimensional player, especially at his age.

But, I guess the Bulls realize that it would take that much to pry him away from the Pistons, who screwed up monumentally. And if you look at it from this point of view ---- it was either overpaying Chandler (which theyre already doing), or overpaying a 4-time DPOY.

Id pick to overpay Big Ben.

I never really thought this could happen, despite it making all kinds of sense. The Bulls play a defensive style which suits Ben more than Flip Saunders' coaching.

The Pistons will still win a lot of games, they have plenty of talent on that team. The problem is that they'll crumble in the playoffs, just like Flip's teams always do.

What a friggin disaster these last two years have been, it's like the Lakers cursed the Pistons in 2004.

-Corliss given away for $$$
-The Brawl
-Larry's urine
-Sheed doubling off of Horry
-Darko traded for peanuts
-Flip Saunders
-And now...the end of an era. Ben Wallace IS the Detroit Pistons. Without him, the team loses its identity.

The Bulls overpaid Ben drastically, but it doesn't change the fact that he'll greatly improve that team. He doesn't get into foul trouble like Tyson, he doesn't miss games due to injury, and he's a consistent force unlike the inconsistent Chandler.

The Bulls played the Heat tough last year, and Ben will make that defense quite a bit nastier.

And while Ben's declining somewhat, he hasn't fallen off by any means. His number were down last year in part because he was being misused.

The Pistons championship window probably closed when Flip Saunders signed as head coach, but this definitely seals it.

How the hell did it get easier? This time last year many thought Det and Spurs would meet in the finals and there was no way Miami could beat this Detroit team that kept getting "can they win 70" talks. And you sit here and type that? Typing it is easy, getting it DONE is not. Dont talk so premature.

Bottomline, the only 2 teams in the East who were actual proven contenders were the Detroit Pistons and the Miami...With that Pistons core now broken up, I'd say the Heat chances of repeating have shot up a few percetanges.

Yeah, action speak louder than words. But it IS something plausible to put out there...
