Default What is the origin/meaning of "pwn"

I know it means you got owed, but where did it come from?

It is the stupidest word in the message board lingo; did it start after that website with the different pictures of people getting "pwned"?

Does anyone say it in real life?

person A: * Damn I pwned that test; I got at least 90% right

person B: * I pwned your sister last night

person A: * She is 300 pounds she probably pwned your ass

The "p" is next to the "o" and people mistyped it and were like "oh **** that actually sounds tight." Hence, pwn.

its "owned" misspelled. became cool to misspell it amongst gamers. especially playing shooters, hence "pwned"

Kinda makes sense; I always thought a group of nerds playing Counterstrike conjured it up.

I don't get it. I also don't get when people say "brb" or "jk" or "lol" in an actual conversation with human beings where physical contact is completely possible.
