Default Off Season Moves

Ok what I'd like to do is start a thread for off season moves, before we begin lets get some facts straight and set some ground rules...

this is not a bash thread, if you think smush needs to be traded say "smush needs to go" not "smush is a worthless puke that's not fit to carry my grandpas jock strap"

second lets not turn this into a Lakers Management bash. we all can agree on the one commmon basis that Managment has not done a stellar job, but since none of us actually know who's pulling the strings in El Segundo it's a waste of time...

now to the facts part we need to have a list of
A. Current roster and Slaries
B. Free agents
C. Players that are on the trading block or rumored to be on the block

once we have those we can get down to the fun part...
hope this is fun, hope everyone contributes and learns something, lets not flame each other and lets respect each others opinion, Hotsizzle can delete any posts that are offensive (right? Hotsizzle)

oh you bet and post the current salaries of free agents and position they play too, it will require us to do some home work but we should have a fairly complete list...

We should try and pick up Diaw. I don't think he should command more than 6 million.

He's a much better player than our Cook and Vlad Rad quite possibly.

I also see some point guards that can help us. I'm liking Luke Ridnour.

Now gts, are these restricted free agents also?

There is 2 players I know who are getting shopped around but not openly. And one of them is a very close friend of Luke Walton.

These 2 articles explain it all,

Quote:
New York Times: The Nets, according to several people with knowledge of the team’s plans, will probably shop Richard Jefferson this summer to get another post player to complement the returning Nenad Krstic.

Quote:
Newsday: Despite assertions to the contrary from owner Glen Taylor and GM Kevin McHale, I'm told the Timberwolves are prepared to trade Kevin Garnett. "I think they're shopping him," a league source said

we'll have to keep an eye on the jefferson situation that would be interesting... and the KG situation will be heard loud and clear round the world if it's true...lol

Yea definetly the KG one will be heard everywhere...lol. But Jefferson seems enticing maybe if we could get him and Kidd in a deal for Bynum and friends, that would be awesome.

The Lakers should try to improve their team while not trading away any major parts.

I thought of this last night. The Lakers desperately need a scoring forward. Rashard Lewis fits that bill and he will hit the free agent market. With not a lot of teams having money to spend, Mitch can call him and give him a contract similar to the one Lamar Odom has. Convince Rashard to go to the Sonics' front office and tell them to work out a sign and trade with the Lakers so he can get his money and go where he wants. Put the pressure on the Sonics to get it done, which they will because they can't afford the kind of negative P.R. they would get if they told Rashard to basically stick it. In this case, we get a really good player while keeping Odom and Bynum.

We should try something like this before we attempt to pull the trigger on a major trade or two.

OK gts, here is your offseason move: Lakers end up with this starting lineup...

Jose Calderon
Kobe
Josh Smith
LO
Kwame

(signings: resign Luke & Mihm, give the MLE or part of it to Magloire)

we are now more athletic, defensively minded (Smith blocks shots) and have a real 2nd-scorer in Smith. Calderon shoots 52%, gets a boatload of assists and is a big PG (the way PJax likes them).

3-way Trade:
Atlanta: loses Josh Smith and Josh Childress. Gets Bynum and Mo Evans.
Toronto: loses Calderon. Gets Childress.

Atlanta does this trade because they are overloaded at the 3 (they have Marvin Williams) and desparately need a young big man.

Toronto does this trade because they already have TJ Ford at the point and they need a unselfish swingman, making Calderon a valuable trade piece.

I think this is reasonable for all parties, but may need a little tweaking (draft picks, etc). This trade basically depends on Atlanta views Bynum.

Are you serious with that ****?

Smith is the only reason why Atlanta has sold more than 2 jerseys this year and he's their God overthere. You really think they'd take a project like Bynum for him? Bynum who could go either way? Suuuuure.

And the whole trade just favors the Lakers so much that it's ridiculous.

Amazing what you people can come up with. Post that on main forum and you get ****ing laughed at. LMAO.

Ridiculous.

Folks sure enough Drew would make an attractive target in any trade speculations but Bynum isn't going anywhere nor will he be used as an tradable bait in anyway trade scenario coz Bynum and his family has been given promises since draft day that he'll be a Laker from none-other than his highly motivated believer and owner Dr.Buss.

Also Dr.Buss's devious technique to bring back "laid back blunt smoker and HOF'er" (K.A.J.) who's never been highly motivated with the media to begin with wasn't easy I bet, especially coming out of retirement just to be Bynum's coach & mentor and making himself accessible to the press to answer some questions (lol) has me to believe that Bynum will remain in a Lakers uni for years to come!

No, Mihm is not an option yet. Last I heard, his rehab is coming along and he should be 100% this summer. And that he wants to stay in LAL and hopes the Lakers will give him a shot. I'm assuming he's coming back 100% healthy. If so, I re-sign him at some small number ($1.5m - $2m-ish).
