I agree. Live, it was exciting. But afterward, the gif doesn't look like anything special. Jordan played great D and had a decent contest. I also came to ask about iverson on Tyrone. What would that rank?

Yeah AI even acknowledged that even though he crossed up MJ that MJ was still able to contest it

Frederic Weiss was drafted by the Knicks with the 15th pick in 1999. "Le dunk de la mort" (that's what the French actually called it) happened in the summer of 2000. Weiss went on to never play in the NBA, in spite of the fact that he was drafted in the first round. With that dunk, Vince Carter ended his career as an NBA player before it even began. Not a member of your committee but I'd argue that dunk is the one and only 6: It wasn't just a death, it was an abortion.

The fact these plays happened back to back was just heaven as someone who disliked the Celtics so much. Probably my favourite NBA moment ever to be honest.

that was awesome.. good times.. NBA League Pass was for free for alot of the '11 playoffs, I watched at night... told my friends in school what happened lol

See I know I'm probably in the minority but the Weiss dunk, to me, isn't all that bad. I mean Carter jumped over him while he stood there somewhat caught by surprise. I acknowledge its the one of, if not the most, greatest dunks ever...but to me it's more the greatness of the dunk and no so much the embarrassment.

To me, a true humiliating embarrassment is the defender fully prepared, knowing the guy is coming, full body contact, trying to take a charge or challenge (even more humiliating) and getting yammed on.

Shaq over Robinson or Dudley. Jordan/Pippen on Ewing. Wade over Varejao. Kobe over Dwight. Those, to me, are more morale busters than Carter/Weiss.

You cant walk away. One of the first times we discussed this happened to be after watching Rocky 4....which ill use for 2 reasons. Its fictional....you dont want to make light of a real tragedy....and its a perfect example. The ultimate example of a humbling is Apollo Creed.

He danced out with James Brown talking shit the whole way to the ring:

Drago...in no mood for such nonsense:

made him humble:

Which is why in my group of friends when someone is utterly destroyed in the sports world someone usually texts:

At some point in the string of resulting texts. Nothing in reality compares to the humbling Apollo got and if it did....you wouldnt want to make fun of it. But it works as the only 5 Sheik humbling....because its untouchable. And since its fictional....its ok.

Creed went from most arrogant entrance of all time....to dead on the mat.

That is off the Sheik scale. You cant realistically match that level of humbling so we dont even go there. Its the wall. Its light speed. The universe as we know it....cant reproduce that much humble. So its 1-3.....with 4...being life altering and very rare. Vince had maybe only arguable clean....none tragic....level 4....of all time.

He redefined a mans existence with one dunk. I cant imagine anyone else beating it out.

He was the ultimate patsy. He saw Carter coming. He had time to properly challenge, foul hard, or just run away. He chose to stand there. I think he was trying to take a charge, the only other possibility is he was just a deer in headlights. He's seven feet tall and somehow still managed to have no effect whatsoever. It was a great play by Carter, but that's the case with every legendary dunk. VC scared Weiss away from NBA fame and money. He had a guaranteed contract in the media capital of the world waiting for him. This some serious demoralization.

Yea Kemp had some wild ones. Chris Gatling getting destroyed and shaking his hand....level 3. The lister blister....level 3. Those aside a lot of people just got dunked on....which isnt always humbling. Sometimes....its just a dunk. Again...the best comparison is art vs porn. Hard to describe the difference....but you know it when you see it.

Kobe on Dwight?

Always felt it was overrated...and that Kobe had much nastier posters that rarely come up. But....its at least a 1 Sheik. However...considering the whole story? Next big thing arrogant youngster....the brutal nature of the dunk....the iconic still photo? Their future beef? I will bump it up and rate it officially:

Somehow I never just googled it to see how widespread it was....just assumed it was something 80s wrestling fans were amused about but no...

It has parody clips and all. Robot chicken did this:

Which im shocked id never seen before now. He literally put a sand dune in the camel clutch...and made the desert humble.

No I get it. No one wants to be Weiss.

For me it was just a matter of...in a game playing with all my friends and everyone watching...would I want to be Weiss...or Varejao (with the Wade on purpose step over) and I would actually rather be Weiss.

The LaPhonso Ellis block? You know the one

Yes. Level 3.

Either it or Jordan on ron mercer is the gold standard for a defensive humbling.

I might lean towards Ellis especially with the post play taunt from Mutombo:

The combo of the "Who the hell do you think you are?" style dismissive block and Mutombo finger point?

No doubt.....

It was nasty but Varejao was making a respectable attempt to challenge. Any player (other than Shaq) that attempts to block shots will get dunked on eventually. He got caught but I salute the effort. Weiss? A punching bag playing basketball.
