I'm a hip hop fan and a rapper myself and I actually agree with this. My wife is a high school math teacher and she spends 90% of the class trying to redirect kids who think they are 50 cent and spew inappropriate mindless lyrics throughout the class. Not to mention the blatant disrespect these kids have that wasn't even apparent when I was in High School like 8 years ago.
The comments from the original poster are true to an extent. The behavior from today's generation is definitely related to the rap music, but do keep in mind there have been rappers who didn't use the profanity and violent lyrics. Guys like MC Hammer, Tone-Loc, Will Smith, and MIMS rap, but they keep it clean. Not all rappers are into this gang ****. The statement from the original poster is true to an extent, but because of today's generation, rappers have a bad reputation.
The same, and actually much worse, is true to Rock, metal, (or wateva crap the white people listen to) as well.
Man.. some of them metal lyrics (when you understand them) are honestly scary.. it freaks you out completely. I'd rather ban that.
The difference is people that listen to metal aren't going out and sacrificing goats.

You are a racist and ignorant retard. The "scary" metal (the fact that you think it's scary entails that you wear satin and lace panties) you are referring to is not popular and not found in retail stores. What's the point of banning something nobody pays attention to? Please enlighten me and post a popular rock band with "scary" (boooooooohh!!) lyrics.

Crack is wack.
I love metal and anything that sounds good. Give me an example of these lyrics. Please don't say Marilyn Manson because that guy is a joke. No one takes that "lady" seriously.
Ban Music and the world would be a better place. It's sexist, violent, and has been bringing down the youth for years.
This post is as stupid as if I were to replace with "ban rap music" to "eradicate Texas" on this sentence. I mean, we hear the same stereotypes about that state as you've cited about rap in this post.. So we should get rid of that too, right?

He's right you know. I have a friend who listens to Black and Death Metal, and he always complains about not being able to find the stuff in stores. And I always give him the same response: "why would a store carry something no one else wants to buy?"
Never before in the history of "music" has one genre (hip-hop / rap) brought all races from all parts of the world into one culture. Sure, I can see how some would view rap music as poison for the youthful mind, but the ends justify the means. When looking at the broad perspective, hip-hop music and more notably hip-hop culture has done this world more good than bad.
Yes, a lot of it is sexist, violent and even in rare cases racist. I have to ask though, which genre of music isn't? If you want to ban rap music, you might as well ban all other music. Initially, the hip-hop movement was merely a form of high level entertainment, but ultimately (and ever so quickly) hip-hop evolved into a high level "way of life" to many people of many different backgrounds and races.
Whatever happened to freedom of speech? We're removing God from the Pledge of Allegiance, and trying to ban the most successful and profitable genre of music ever. What's next? Censorship is a joke. It'll have a reverse effect. By banning a particular music, you only further pi$$ off people. It's like telling your teenage daughter if she goes out and has sex, she'll burn in hell. It only motivates them to do the exact opposite of what you're trying to censor in the first place.
We don't need the government stepping in to censorship things. It's not the government's responsibility to intervene for our children. That's the parent's responsibility. Oh wait, this is America, so saying parents and responsibility in the same sentence would be moronic.

Reason: poor verbiage

The word God was added in 1954 becasue of a lobby by the Knights of Columbus, so it is not even in the original lyrics, and it is not really related to freedom of speech but freedom of/from religion. Sorry that was un-related but I felt like sharing.
Do you have any proof of rap/hip-hop being the most successful/profitable music ever? You may be right but I highly doubt that it has surpassed, or even approached rock & roll:
Led Zeppelin - 250+million albums sold
Pink Floyd - 250+ million
Queen - 250+ million
AC/DC - 100+ million
Aerosmith - 100+ million
Creedence Clearwaer Revival - 100+ million
Deep Purple - 100+ million
The Eagles - 100+ million
The Rolling Stones - 100+ million
U2 - 100+ million
The Who - 100 + million
Guns N' Roses - 75+ million
Iron Maiden - 75+ million
Metallica - 75+ million
KISS - 75+ million
Van Halen - 75+ million
The list goes on and on, and I didn't even include Elvis or The Beatles. I'm not trying to start a flame war, but I highly doubt rap has even approached the mecca that is rock & roll.
I do agree 100% on your censorship post, even outside of music. You can "f*ck" 7 times in a PG-13 movie but 8 is an R rating. WTF?! Who decided that?

Do I have any concrete proof - of course not. There's more hip-hop / rap artist in general than any other genre to date (and hip-hop is still growing). I believe you're using Rock & Roll a bit loosely. Rock & Roll is a very "broad" category. I believe you're mixing other genres as well (such as Metal and Soft Rock). You could even argue "pop music" putting names like U2 out there. A lot of rap music is considered pop music as well, which opens a whole new can of worms.
In short, Rock & Roll is not really a specific genre, like Pop isn't. Rock & Roll and Pop are fathers to several other genres. Would it shock me if there was data that proved a specific genre (like soft rock) was more profitable historically than hip-hop? No it wouldn't, but my money says hip-hop given it's massive cult following worldwide in addition to millions and millions of casual fans, would make the hip-hop music genre a tough cookie to surpass.
You're right about the freedom of religion thing. I guess I was a little off base there. Also, I had no idea it was only recently (1954) added. I guess my point is the whole censorship thing. Too many activists and lobbyist are putting their hands in places they shouldn't.
And the world would be a better place. It's sexist, violent, and has been bringing down the youth for years. It's even infiltrating overseas and bearing n the minds of the youth over there. I remember in the early days of rap, it was banned in the more affluent of states for a reason. Most of it is crap. And this is coming from someone who listens to rap, has grown up with it, and still likes some of it. But I think the world would be a better place without it. Kids see it, think that that's what's hot, and try to portray everything that's being said. Every rapper's a gangster, hustler, drug dealer, or killer. While I myself listen to it, I'm slowly weaning myself off of it and refuse to let my kids listen to this s#!t. To me rap is the most influential form of genocide in history, because it promotes black on black violence and people are too dumb to even recognize it.
Hell, even heavy metal, that dark goth stuff isn't telling you to go out and kill christians or shoot that prep if he make fun of yo leather. Rap is one of the few forms of music that somebody has to dumb down just to get his point of ignorance across. I'm all for getting rid of porn. There's a reason that kids are becoming sexually active at younger ages with all the nudity and pornographic images readily available to them. But rap, hip hop, gangsta rap music irks the s#!t out of me. If I had to become famous by leaving behind a legacy of drug stories, sexual escapades, and blind violence I'd rather lead a more humble existence than sell my soul for a platinum plaque. But of course there's just too much money to be made, and as desensitized as we are who even cares anymore. But I kinda wish some politician would pick up the baton again and try to shake things up. Outright censorship would be too much to ask, and in these days and times unreasonable, but something needs to be done.
I'd never rap for money. Some lil kid comes up to me one day. I want to be just like you Bat. I want to grow up and be a hustla and a dboy. B!t@h you betta ask somebody. Immediately I would think 'what have I done?' But these rappers/entertainers have no conscience. I know I can be just as hypocritical as Tupac. Keep Ya Head Up one minute then a Hit Em Up the next. But I'm just stating my position. So yeah we need to monitor the greenhouse effect for global warming, clean up the planet to save the enviorment, but if we want to give these kids a brighter future the world would be a better place without rap music. Sayeth the Bat. nevermore.
I agree with all of this...I grew up listening to rap and nw that I am older I realize how much of an idiot I was...it is starting to die down though
rap sales were down 30% last year...it is starting to fall, people are getting sick of the hearing about how rich they are and how many fu-cking diamonds are in thier mouths...they need a new diretion....I can't really think of a rap artist today that I respect or even like....it has become pop music...
porn on the other hand...that needs to stay....and it will always be around....sex doesn't go out of style....
