And this is coming from someone who listens to rap, has grown up with it, and still likes some of it. But I think the world would be a better place without it. Kids see it, think that that's what's hot, and try to portray everything that's being said. Every rapper's a gangster, hustler, drug dealer, or killer. While I myself listen to it, I'm slowly weaning myself off of it and refuse to let my kids listen to this s#!t. To me rap is the most influential form of genocide in history, because it promotes black on black violence and people are too dumb to even recognize it.

Hell, even heavy metal, that dark goth stuff isn't telling you to go out and kill christians or shoot that prep if he make fun of yo leather. Rap is one of the few forms of music that somebody has to dumb down just to get his point of ignorance across. I'm all for getting rid of porn. There's a reason that kids are becoming sexually active at younger ages with all the nudity and pornographic images readily available to them. But rap, hip hop, gangsta rap music irks the s#!t out of me. If I had to become famous by leaving behind a legacy of drug stories, sexual escapades, and blind violence I'd rather lead a more humble existence than sell my soul for a platinum plaque. But of course there's just too much money to be made, and as desensitized as we are who even cares anymore. But I kinda wish some politician would pick up the baton again and try to shake things up. Outright censorship would be too much to ask, and in these days and times unreasonable, but something needs to be done.

I'd never rap for money. Some lil kid comes up to me one day. I want to be just like you Bat. I want to grow up and be a hustla and a dboy. B!t@h you betta ask somebody. Immediately I would think 'what have I done?' But these rappers/entertainers have no conscience. I know I can be just as hypocritical as Tupac. Keep Ya Head Up one minute then a Hit Em Up the next. But I'm just stating my position. So yeah we need to monitor the greenhouse effect for global warming, clean up the planet to save the enviorment, but if we want to give these kids a brighter future the world would be a better place without rap music. Sayeth the Bat. nevermore.

the reason why people wanna ban rap and have all these conflicting feelings over it is because they never understood what rap was about in the first place..

All the stuff said in rap music was a part of the culture even back before people started putting it in records...

Only problem with hip-hop today is that there is no balance...

Its like a news station that only talks about 1 subject anymore...

I think Hip-hop needs to fall for a while so all the posers can find something else to cling and over expose......

this genre is not meant to be exploited in the fashion it has been over the last 10, 15 years

Hip hop is best when the artists dont abuse the power of their stories... Somebody figured out that kids from the suburbs would gravitate to these stories about the ghetto and all the sh*t that goes on...So they raped the music for all its worth and now its power has been diminished due to all the abuse from wack lying ass rappers who raped the music to sell out to kids from the suburbs who can be easily fooled into believing and fantasizing over their tall tales

After the posers leave hip-hop for dead, it can re-generate into an honest art form again

I can remember a study being done by a guy who owns many topless bars in Vegas and other cities...he proved that when rap is played at the club the chances of a fight/violence breaking out were much higher than at times when no rap was played at all...the music gets all the guy's testosterone levels jacked up and the mixer of that and alcohol made things much more tense and also drove out the decent costumers that are just there to have a good time...he ended up making it a rule to not play any rap music at his bars...

Based on this logic, owners of bars shouldn't play country music because the damn rednecks will get too drunk and end up killing themselves.

I'll just limit it to blues influenced rock and & roll (the good stuff IMO) and the numbers are still astonishing.

This is bands like The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Guns N' Roses, Aerosmith, Deep Purple, Chuck Berry, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Queen and more. That is billions of albums sold. Of course, as a blues and rock & roll fan I am partial to this genre and will defend it to the death while probably overlooking other ganres.

Of course, blues influenced rock has been around since 1955 with Chuck Berry's "Maybellene" which gives this genre an enormous head start on hip-hop. Especially in the 70's when rock & roll was on top of the world and there was no internet downloading to taint true sales numbers.

The same also goes for rock & roll IMO. Modern rock like Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance is insulting to the great artists of the past who actually combined great songwriting ability, creativity, and integrity. It seems, to me at least, that most modern musicians of all genres are in it for money first, fame second, and the art of music in a distant third.
