Re-signing Vince Carter, who hasn't helped his bargaining stance by shooting 7-of-23 with three turnovers in the fourth quarters this series, is the New Jersey Nets' top priority.
If they can, they likely will look to move Richard Jefferson in hopes of getting a big man. If Carter doesn't re-up, the Nets will try a sign-and-trade with probably the Orlando Magic or Charlotte Bobcats, but it's doubtful they will get anything that makes them a contender – and that could force Jason Kidd to ask for a trade.
He'll be 35 next season and wants desperately to win a championship.

Hmm, I wouldn't mind RJ either. He or VC could play SG leaving Wallace to play SF. I can't wait to see how this plays out.
Im not too sold on RJ as a SG for us. He isnt like a Maggette type player who can play SF/SG. Jefferson is more of a pure SF. Id go for VC before I went for RJ. As far as NJ wanting a sign and trade for Carter Im pretty positive they would want one of our core players of Felton,Wallace,Okafor. If NJ wanted any of those 3 for Carter id be content with drafting a young SG or signing a solid SG thru FA.
We would be crazy to give up one of Felton/Wallace/Okafor for a 35 year old.
If we draft a Center or SG and get a solid starter at the other position through free agency (if we are signing all our own guys I can't see there being enough left for an All-Star calbre free agent anyway) then I think we'll be fine. Lets just not over pay for an old star who will only be here a couple of seasons and damage our building process by causing us to loose good young players or miss out on available younger guys. If one's around 30-32 or younger I'd say go for it but not 35.
We can get another cheap young player to back-up a position with the toronto first so no need to over pay a back-up either assuming don't use it to trade up. We need to get all our current pieces back in my opinion as the first priority with our cap space.
