If he can stay healthy, Dunleavy is a better pick-up than most people are giving us credit for. He has always been a deadly shooter -- which automatically means he will thrive offensively on this team -- and his defensive principles have been solid. No, he isn't the athlete he was in his prime and even then he wasn't some beast end-to-end player, but he has a high basketball IQ and he'll make the smart play.
People also aren't taking into account this being really the first full offseason, training camp and preseason these guys have had together... and Kyrie and Tristan being a year older and closer to their respective prime years.
I think Love is going to be a lot better with the weight of a championship off this team's shoulders and the same might go for other guys. The expectations on this team were heavy -- maybe too heavy -- right out of the gates. Now, they're basically playing with house money. No one think they're going to win it again.
No doubt, unless Felder is a very quick study (and even then, you don't want to put too much on his shoulders).
I wouldn't be surprised if they signed one of the veterans floating around out there that have played with James in the past (Norris Cole, Mario Chalmers).
The LeBron-Kyrie-Love Cavs have traditionally used the first 25 games or so to assess where the problem areas are and then address it just before or at the trade deadline. They did it in 2015 with cutting ties with Waiters for JR-Shump-Mozgov and they did it last year -- to a lesser extent -- with Channing Frye and making a coaching change.
The same thing will happen this year. The team will be test run and checked for problems for the first 25-30 games. Adjustments will be made at that point with the playoffs in mind. The regular season is a test for this team. That's why I'm not at all concerned about the roster right now. The final exams start in May and June.
The Cavs gave Mozgov every opportunity to show even a glimmer of the player he was in 2015, but they finally had to completely bail on him. He was so bad that he was almost single-handedly putting the starting unit into the negative.
It should be interesting to see what he does in LA this year. Maybe he was just playing injured or without confidence last season. He was a shell of the 2015 version.
Derrick Williams (Jefferson)
Deron Williams (Felder)
Went from weak spot to one of the best benches in league if everyone's healthy. Dwill,Korver,Shump,RJ,FRYE,Dwill2,Bogut.. A lot of options and lineups cavs can play.. I expect Korver and or Dwill to be on court in crunch time at some points.
