anyone that's been paying attention the past couple of years?

A fast postseason exit would dampen fan enthusiasm, but it would be unfair for them to complain. Fifth place is where many experts picked the Jazz in the preseason, but that was before the team got slammed by injuries. They should have been scrapping to finish eighth. Instead, they won six more games than ESPN predicted.

Getting past the first playoff round would be a bonus. Anything further? It deserves a medal.

Considering they were the 6th best team at the end of the season 2 years ago and they have 14 million in cap space and an exception that they did not even use there is plenty to complain about. They were supposed to be deep so either they are deep or or you quit talking about the injuries.

The memories of the postseason, meanwhile, are more vivid for the veteran point guard Hill, who had some advice for his teammates.

"It's the real season now," he said. "It starts now."

Be interesting to see which guys are up for it. Have serious doubts about Hayward but as a team they didn't do well against the Clippers or most of the best teams.

Who knows what they could have done if they were all in with or without injuries?

Quote:
it’s no surprise that according to ‘Man Games Lost’ the one whose absence had the biggest negative impact was George Hill. In fact, according to a report released on April 9th, George Hill was second in the league in injury impact on his team as his games missed due to injury led to 3.7 Jazz wins lost, trailing only Kevin Durant (3.8).

I think a healthy Favors would have been pretty huge though

Quote:
The Jazz will certainly need that to be the case, as well as have Derrick Favors and Rodney Hood firing on all cylinders if they hope to arise victorious against a tough Clippers team.

How likely is that? Hopefully they'll play good and help them win but if you're hoping for all cylinders you're dreaming. Hill looked to be but can he do it for big minutes?

The Portland Trail Blazers played 13 games between March 14 and April 4, and in all but one of them, Maurice Harkless attempted a 3-pointer. Then, suddenly, during an April 4 game in Utah, Harkless simply stopped. And now we know why: To ensure that he’d pocket $500,000 from a bonus designed, ironically, to reward his shooting. – via Yahoo! Sports

When Harkless missed a 3-pointer against the Jazz in the Blazers’ fifth-to-last game of the season, his 3-point percentage crept down to 35.05. Another miss would have pushed it below 35, to 34.87. It also would have cost him $500,000. That’s because Harkless’ four-year, $40 million contract includes up to $2 million in incentives, and one of those incentives would be triggered if Harkless, a career 31.5 percent 3-point shooter, shot 35 percent from beyond the arc over the full season. – via Yahoo! Sports

Glad the Jazz didn't sign him! Got to be careful about what kind of incentives you put in!

http://www.slcdunk.com/nba-draft/201...rejs-pasecniks

Quote:
Pick #24:
Tony Bradley (C from North Carolina)
Harry Giles (PF from Duke) x2
Rodions Kurucs (SF from Latvia)
Mathias Lessort (PF/C from France)
Tyler Lyndon (SF/PF Soph from Syracuse)
Donovan Mitchell (SG Soph from Louisville) x2
Moritz Wagner (F Soph from Michigan)

I think you have to look center first based on the young guys they currently have. Maybe someone that could also play alongside Rudy eventually like Favors.

Quote:
Pick #30:
Jordan Bell (PF/C Jr. from Oregon)
Bonzie Colson (PF from Notre Dame)
Andrew Jones (PG from Texas)
Luke Kennard (SG from Duke)
Tyler Lyndon (SF/PF Soph from Syracuse)
Donovan Mitchell (SG Soph from Louisville)
Anžejs Pasečņiks (C from Latvia)
Caleb Swanigan (F Soph from Purdue)
Sindarius Thornwell (SG Sr. from South Carolina)
At #30 in this draft you kind of swing for the fences, don’t you?

I'd look wing for the next couple picks

Quote:
Pick #55:
Jaron Blossomgame (SF Sr. from Clemson)
Tyler Doresey (PG from Oregon)
Michael Fusek (C from Slovak Republic)
Kyle Kuzma (PF Jr. from Utah)
None of these guys are as cool as Marcus Paige or Jeremy Evans, though.

The same Paige who's rights they gave up when they brought him to camp? Still like to know what that was all about! Best player available.

Quote:
the Jazz do have some spots opening up a week or two after the draft because of Free Agency.

I'm guessing with the new 17 man roster they could carry 3 even 4 rookies now especially next year when they will be strapped for cash. I'd guess Wallace will get one of the last two spots and spend another year in the D-league

Two of the most important men for the Nets’ summer live in Moscow, and general manager Sean Marks is flying to see them both this week: team owner Mikhail Prokhorov and top target Milos Teodosic. Marks and Nets coach Kenny Atkinson head to ONEXIM headquarters to meet with Prokhorov, then they will scout free-agent priority Teodosic, whom one expert called the best passer in the world. “We’re heading over to meet with Mikhail this week, so we’ll sit down with him and give him the plan and discuss things with him,” Marks said. “We’ve had an open dialogue really throughout the course of the season. It’s been terrific. Mikhail has been back and forth here a number of times, so now we’re going to fly over there and sit with him and meet with him.” – via New York Post

The Nets’ interest in the Serbian star is well-documented. “Look, he’s a terrific player, there is no question on that,” Marks said. “But there are a lot of guys out there. Last time I was in Europe, I probably saw eight different teams. [Assistant general manager] Trajan Langdon was out there, he’s heading out again, and he’s going to see another 10 different teams. So we’re looking at a bunch of different players. It’d probably be pretty irresponsible of me to say we got one guy in mind. – via New York Post

best passer in the world and wants to play for Utah!

The same bravado that makes Green a Defensive Player of the Year front-runner is a big reason he is regularly late running back on defense, per a FiveThirtyEight report published Wednesday. The story’s author, Chris Herring, pored over data from SportVU — a system of six cameras that measures the movements of all players on the court during games — and plenty of video to determine that Green leads the league in “lag rate,” a stat invented to measure how often someone crosses half-court more than three seconds after the ball. – via San Francisco Chronicle

No one can dispute Green’s value, given his superb passing ability and his immense defensive skill, which makes him a deserving candidate for defensive player of the year. But he’s prone to joining plays late when he feels he’s been bumped off course while en route to the basket. (He sometimes argues when he feels teammates are fouled, too.) – via FiveThirtyEight

According to Herring’s analysis, Green’s has a lag rate of 20 percent — only one percentage point more than Russell Westbrook, LeBron James and John Wall. Herring found that Green is late running back on defense for two main reasons: Either he is upset with himself for making a mistake on the previous offensive possession, or he is complaining to a referee. – via San Francisco Chronicle

that cinches DPOY for Rudy to me

With the Celtics fading in the first round, the chances of Carmelo Anthony wearing green are increasing. According to an NBA source, the Celtics coaching staff was in favor of trading for Anthony at the trade deadline, but general manager Danny Ainge had too many reservations. One of Ainge’s concerns, according to a source, was an Anthony trade would have given Boston no real cap space to work with for the 2017 free-agent class. – via New York Post

The Post has learned that in talks with the Celtics, their defensive small forward Jae Crowder would be a major player of interest for Knicks president Phil Jackson. In fact, Jackson lamented not trading for Crowder when he was on the table in the 2014 trade talks with the Mavericks for Tyson Chandler. Crowder is an active, gritty defender who can shoot from 3-point range. – via New York Post

Jackson trumpeted his desire to move Anthony last week — so heavily that he drew a rebuke from the players association, which reported him to the NBA commissioner’s office. A source specified the technical reason for Jackson’s desire to move Anthony, whose style is so rooted in isolation play. It damaged chemistry and prevented Jackson’s move-the-ball-to-the-open-man philosophy, the source said. – via New York Post

Guess they could still play Hayward and Anthony together.

"Obviously he knows he's not Russell Westbrook ... but he thinks he can be Raul Neto for the Jazz. He can bring five to 10 minutes, hit some shots and contribute," Emery says. "I'm a Utah Jazz fan and I wondered why teams wouldn't bring in Jimmer to sell jerseys at the very least. There is value from what he can do on and off [the court]."

He's no Neto but he could be a 6th man probably not for the Jazz though. Look what Crawford did this year returning from China.
