Default Jamaal Charles vs Marshawn Lynch

Lynch is retired, and by the looks of it Charles will too.

So looking back, who was the better running back? I'm a Chiefs fan in Vancouver so I always had this debate. For me Charles.

I'll go with Marshawn...he has the bulk numbers...Charles has the efficiency.

I've always felt efficiency -CAN- be misleading for RBs in that a RB grinding down the field with short runs for a TD is no different than a RB hitting a homerun for a TD...they both get the same 7 points. It can even be argued that the grinder did more for his team since he ate up clock and got his defense rest.

That said, I'm not saying Charles' efficiency is misleading...he is/was an amazing RB. I just favor bulk yards and TDs more than efficiency, and if you are taking Charles here it can only be argued with efficiency.

Jamal Charles.

His 5.5 yards per carry for his CAREER is absolutely insane. He might be the most productive RB ever on a per touch basis.

Marshawn had the better career. More durable. Better in the redzone. A true work horse.

Charles is 4th all time in yards per attempt, which is pretty amazing.

I would still give Marshawn the edge though. Plus he's fuking hilarious.

Charles YPC really is amazing but he basically stopped playing at age 28-29

I'm sure it would go down a few tics if he played to 32-33...and maybe he will!

Although I'm also sure it would/will still be above 5.0 and top-10 all time

I've seen Charles milk games too many times to hold that against him in this comparison vs. Marshawn.

One thing that really jumps out watching Charles play a lot is his ability to run inside and get those sustainer yards. Great vision gets the job done when size isn't elite.

He's actually 2nd all time for RB, with someone from the 50's in front of him who never ran for a 1000 yards in a single season.

Next closest who's actually a legit featured back is Jim Brown at 5.2.

The closest modern RB is Barry sanders at 5 YPC.

No you haven't Lil carby.

You know I ride with you usually, but your trippin.

Lynch controlled the tempo of the game. Opened up so much play action. Got the tough yards. Countless 3rd and 1 conversions.

Lynch all day.

Why is Marshawn more efficient when it comes to TD's? Marshawn's best year he had 13 and Charles had 12? 1 more TD makes you more efficient? Charles was also a 3 down and goal line back. On top of that he was a dangerous receiving back. Charles is also much more dangerous in the open field. Charles also never had the O-line to support. And not much other offensive weapons. In 2013 he led all players in offensive usage.

Give me Charles. Marshawn is like the Jerome Bettis, Charles is the Priest Holmes.

The only great linesman Charles ran behind was Alberts. Maybe Lilja and Hudson, outside of them it's been wildly inconsistent. Especially when Fisher came on board. Over the last 4 years since Reid came on board they have been in the bottom half in rankings and one of the worst in 3 years. Smith gets constantly put on his ass.

This isn't the days of Will Shields. Chiefs have never had a consistent line since 2010.

Smith getting put on his ass has no bearing with run blocking.

Don't make the mistake of lumping pass blocking and run blocking together.

It's not unusal for a player to be significantly better at one vs. the other.
