another thing
i dont see us needing those 3 bigs that bad if we get ron.
lamar can play the block. exclusively
if we get another big like Magliore then we are set. we arent that far. Plus with ron we wont worry as much with the guards getting to the rim on the defensive end.so lamar could play that 4 with kwame/magliore playing that 5.keep bynum.PERIOD.
boy is too much of a risk to let slip away.
yeah theres a chance he doesnt get big and he is a bust
BUT THERES A CHANCE HE BECOMES GREAT.
How many bigs do you know at 19 that were as good as bynum(talent wise)
our front court would be a lot deeper.

I like it. Keep Odom and Bynum and get Artest (possibly S&T with Luke, if he agrees with it). Since we're going to lose him anyway. The key is to get Magloire somewhere near the MLE. If the Lakers can add Artest and Magloire without disrupting too much of the core than it's a huge upgrade.

Ron Artest. Where do I begin? Toughness, tenacity, aggressiveness. Excellent excellent defense. Can play the post pretty well. 6-8 rebounds a game.

For one year fellas. You give up a Luke Walton or a Kwame Brown and you get Ron Artest's services on a team where he had expressed interest in playing and with Kobe/Phil welcoming him. And yes, Kobe did go on record and say that he would love to have Artest. If it goes bad, send his ass home..release him after the year is over (team option) and it all helps the cap.

You buy him cheap, it can pay off big. If it doesn't, then it doesn't. He's gone.

Sounds like a good deal to me.

Let me remind everyone that a lot of our problems last year were defense, rebounding, athleticism, toughness...hmmm seems that Artest fits the bill for that one.

Bring Artest to LA as long as we keep Kobe(duh), Odom, and Bynum

First time post here, but i'm a LONG time Laker fan, and I have to agree that, though Ron Artest is a defensive stopper and a decent scorer, his bi-polar behaivor is NOT what is needed for the Lakers right now.

The Lakers need to upgrade the PF position and get a PG that can keep the offense fluid and hit the open jumper. Artest does neither of the 2. P-Jax has done wonders with Dennis Rodman and other malcontents, but Artest is a different breed.

I would take the risk on Artest ...if the cost is low. To me low =
VRad + pick
or
Kwame

Perhaps we can get Artest and Price for Kwame + pick.

I almost think that is too much to pay for him.... How about a Second Round Pick, Sasha and Cook? Now that would make it a a worthy risk to me!

LOL at the Sasha and Cook proposal.

Sizzle is absolutley right. It's Ron freaking Artest. No matter how nuts he is, he's a great player and would bring to this team so much more than just the stats.

You can worry about his off the court situation but remember that the didn't want to play for the Kings in the first place. He wanted to be a Laker. He respects Kobe and Phil.

He'd make us a contender IMO.

But whatever, you guys just keep rejecting players for the sake of having this precious team we have here. I mean it's brilliant, the core, the future, the all of it.
We're in such a good position that passing on Artest just may lead to Kobe asking out.

Seriously now, If Artest is available he must be a Laker. The Lakers are in no position to nitpick and they can have Artest for garbage (everything outside of Kobe, Odom and Bynum) so what exactly do they have to lose?

My best offer would be Kwame-Turiaf-Cook-Evans for Artest and Kenny Thomas.

Remember folks, if we want Artest we will have to offer more than any other team.

Artest at this point is even less of a gamble than JO. Doesn't help as much but we can keep other pieces while getting Artest which is valuable by itself.

Role players can easily be replaced. We have some nice picks, Radmanovic will be better next year, so will Bynum, we have the MLE etc.

But Artest on the Lakers? S-C-A-R-Y.

We'd also need to bring in some size but Artest's mentality would mesh perfectly with Kobe's and the Lakers would have a great team with tough mentality. Do it!

Also for anyone who has doubts that artest would come to play.....remember he didn't want sacramento.

He wanted either the clipps or lakers.

man sizzle and Lakerfreak know whats up.
man we can grab ron. i dont think many teams are willing to risk on taking artest. not many teams did before he went to sac. imagine now.
im all for it. i seriously think we can get away with offering a package of
either of these(not all)
-(2) 2nd rounders(sac loves drafts)
-Sasha(can shoot...young)
-Cook(can shoot...sac likes)
-Vlade(like peja...looks like him a little...can shoot)
or if push comes to shove and we need to offer a big gun.
offer luke.HE IS GOING TO LEAVE ANYWAY.
why not get artest out of it. tho i doubt they will get a better offer than the other choices thus leaving us with luke to deal him else where.

Larry Brown, a great coach, Went to D-troit and controlled wallace and limited his technical fouls.

Can you answer why Phil can't do such a thing for artest? the only problem with artest is his off-court issues that are clearly told incorrectly or exaggerated by the media.

It's pretty freakin obvious that we aren't going to get any of the 3 superstar bigs. I don't see us working out a clever deal at all.

Our best bet is RA.

well spoken

Its funny how some of you grab onto a name and its like the second coming of Christ... my goodness, we are talking about Ron Artest... he does NOT make the Lakers an instant contender. He could be a piece that could contribute if he does not get whacked out. Why else do the Kings want to get rid of him -- hello??????

My point above is that you don't overpay for this guy. He has not been an influencing force since his days in Indiana. Get real folks and get out of Ron's jockstrap.
