Default AZ Cardinals: Window closed or a down season?

- Injuries across the OL
-A defensive unit that wasn't as sturdy as it had been in previous years.
-The rumblings over Carson's deep ball, and him being subsequently washed up as a starting QB.
-WR group went from a huge area of strength to a question mark. John Brown's sickle cell and Michael Floyd being a disaster.

David Johnson will be one of the best backs in the league for the foreseeable future barring injury

Their window still open, just gotta find a competent QB if Palmer underperforms next year

Closed. Fits might retire, Floyd is gone, Carson looks washed. Unless their defense takes a massive leap I don't see them with realistic Super Bowl hopes.

Arizona is the one team that would really improve with Romo.

I know the Cards finished with a good showing on defensive rankings, but this defense wasn't the same as years prior. It's a concern because that defense trending downward is going to strip away some of an elite rb's value.

This is pretty much where my head was at when I made the thread
p.s. goddam your username makes me feel like an old dude. Jailblazers almost 20 years in the past haha.

We haven't seen him play in almost 2 full years. More accurately, we haven't really seen him play like Tony Romo in almost 2 years. That's another topic for another thread maybe.

Arizona was 14th in PPP allowed this year. Just an OK defense.

My mans, thanks for the assist. All I had to lean on was the eye test cuz I'm light years behind you guys and the advanced stats.

Maybe not advanced... more advanced than total defense yards

Campbell is also a free agent, right?

If they lose him they lose probably their best defensive player, beside a healthy Mathiue (wasn't healthy last year)

Yup. Campbell, and a lot of the defensive line are UFA. Tony Jefferson too...his value to the Cardinals is so much more cuz of Mathieu always being hurt like you said.

can't afford to lose campbell or jefferson. i honestly think our defense isn't that horrible, it needs tuning but with such a sh1tty offense, they're constantly on the field getting over-worked.

to answer the question, with the current roster as-is, yes, they have no chance for contention. however, with a new (competent and non-injury prone and of reasonable age) qb, it's possible. fitz will probably retire before we make it to the playoffs again.

anyhow, my dream scenario is for the colts to continue being a sh1t organization until Luck wants out and contacts his old coach BA. Andrew Luck+David Johnson's running game+Hungry Defense=serious contenders

fitz is coming back. excited to see how we do in the draft this year. honestly, our biggest weakness is having a healthy qb...i'd say our window is not closed yet. romo would be cool, but can he stay healthy?
