Default Reminder that Montana played with the GOAT HC, GOAT WR and..

an amazing defense in a non salary cap era.

But apparently Brady throwing it to converted QB's at WR has more help

Brady is the GOAT, its not even a debate anymore.

Credit Montana though he did win 2 super bowls without Rice, but Walsh was a major reason why Montana was who he is, Belichick is the GOAT coach, but he is a defensive minded guy.

You know that comparing numbers in football across eras is fools play.

They were both similarly great in their times. Brady has just lasted longer. That's why he's the GOAT.

Montana only had 8-9 truly healthy seasons. Won the super bowl in 4 of them mind you. But you can't rule out Brady's consistency over this long of a period of time. It's absurd.

EDIT: I said "just lasted longer", and some people could take that being easy. It's not. Lasting like Brady has is a spectacle

Your "era" argument would have worked if the dude the 9ers went against didn't happen to throw for 300 yards.

Also, the 49ers had a top 3 defense

Big picture friend...big picture.

I wasn't really talking about Brady and Montana and their first times in the super bowl.

Both had great defenses most of the time they won. Both controlled the game most of the time. Both were ALWAYS clutch as fvck.

Very similar players. Brady has done it for longer than Joe did. Period.

1981 Passing yards leader

Dan fouts: 4802 yards

2001: Kurt Warner 4830 yards

Players with over 3000+ yards in 1981: 15
Players with over 3000+ yards in 2001: 19

Players with 90+ QB rating in 1981: 3
Players with 90+ QB rating in 2001: 5

You realize the era Montana played in benefited him as there was no salary cap in the NFL at the time? The 49ers never had to worry about making cuts or trading players to remain under the cap. Never had to flirt with the decision of letting someone like Lott go because of salary cap issues.

However, that's something the Patriots and every other team in the modern NFL has faced. Imagine if the Patriots would have been able to keep players like Chandler Jones, Vince Wilfork, Collins, Seymour, Branch, Welker, Revis, etc, over the years?

The big argument in the Brady VS Joe debate is saying Brady was a game manager

Joe had similar stats to Brady's in his first Superbowl

So was Joe a game manager on his First one too?

Huh? Joe was also a game manager.

Who could sling it when need be.

Who rarely made mistakes.

Just like Brady. Don't know why you're so combative with what I'm trying to say

Again...big picture.

What..2 guys threw for 4000 in 1981? One of which is an all time great in his own right.

I'm talking Brady vs Montana. Both were game managers in their first SB wins.

They were essentially the same. But instead of Brady's hard competitiveness, Joe was cool and seemingly didn't give a shit (though of course he obviously did).

2 different styles. Same level of play on the field. Same results.

Except Brady has lasted longer. That's it.

Sorry about the era talk. But stats don't really mean much when discussing these two. Other than mistakes made or not.

Joe was a maestro in big games. I feel like some Brady guys tend to forget that, which is the only reason I bring it up.
