Looks like you subscribe to the positional need over best player philosophy. Would you look at it differently if the Colts didn't already have their franchise QB in place?

Carbine have you actually spent time watching tape on all of these players? Or are these grades just from reading up and combine numbers?

Positional need is part of it for everyone. Unless you have a near flawless roster - which nobody has in the salary cap era.

Smart teams don't use high draft currency (1st and 2nd rounders) to stockpile up on a position of strength.

It's why taking Dorsett for us in the 1st round a couple years ago was such a bad move. Even if you truly feel like he was the best available player - it was the one position on the team beside QB where we were good.

It doesn't mean you don't draft the position at all. If Mike Williams falls to the second round, take him by all means. The value far outweighs positional need.

I don't think you bump of a player due to positional weakness either. For example we severely need a tackle. When I watched Cam Robinson, I didn't give him a boost because we need the position.

I've watched at least two games for most guys on draft breakdown. A select few only had one game. The big time prospects 3+

Plus Senior bowl.

It's my rankings for where I think the Colts should draft these players. The rankings would look different if this was a Cowboys board. Fournett would not be a 1/2 (late 1st early 2nd) because there is no way I think the Cowboys should use such a high pick on a position where they are strong at.

I know this is not going to happen because Fournett is going to be long gone before the Cowboys 2nd round pick - but if Fournett was available when the Cowboys pick in the 2nd round I don't think it would be smart to draft him.

Even though he would most likely be superior to any player remaining in the draft.

Teams just have to make a big board and stick with it...

you could probably put together your own Colts big board...

I might make a Dallas one if I have time...but just for the 1st round. Don't have time to study up on every single prospect in college.

If Sidney didn't tear his damn achillis up he was going to be my favorite corner in the draft and someone I would bang the table for.

He might not play his rookie year now. Such a horrible story. Hopefully he had insurance for this type of thing otherwise he lost millions.

I get you. Didn't mean to suggest that you get outrageous with the bpa vs position thing. I think it shifts a little more towards a draft based on need than talent if you have that QB already in place because the clock is ticking on that franchise QB's career and you better maximize that window of opportunity. If the gap in talent is wide you just take the better player every day of the week. Don't get cute and overthink it.

Thing that makes NFL draft different than the other leagues is the scarcity of trades. Once that pick becomes a player, teams are pretty much married to the player. There's no recovering any of that value.

Anyway, good stuff

Mayock just went out there with Peppers as a top10 in this class.

I'm starting to buy it too
