Default I Don't Think Lonzo Ball Will Be Successful

When was the last time we had a pointguard who was able to lead a team to contender status without the ability to shoot pull-up jumpers?

I'm sure he'll put up some good stat-lines, but teams are going to realize that he's one dimensional on the pick and roll. If he's not going to be able to stop and shot the elbow jumper, teams are just going to sag off of him on to his man.

It's the same thing that hurt John Wall so much for the first few seasons of his career. the difference is, Wall was just bad at those shots, Lonzo's shot form prevents him from even getting those shots off effectively.

What do you guys think?

Are you mentally ill?

I love Russell's game, and I don't think I've ever posted about Ingram or Randle.

All three of those guys are great prospects, but all three have weaknesses.

Randle and Russell are weak defenders. Randle is a poor shooter and a bit undersized. Russell is a below average athlete for a 1.

These are things that sane people acknowledge.

He only took like 15 midrange shots all year, and only made a few.

Every great point guard takes 3+ midrange shots a game on average.

Jason Kidd was the last to do it. That team had no one who averaged 15 points or more, like wow. Kidd shot 39% on the field that year too.

Big difference is that Kidd was pretty elite on the other side...Ball is a better range shooter though as of right now.

I'm really not in tune with any of the players coming in. Todays league style of ball doesn't grab my attention as much.

I've seen 6 UCLA games and I saw a guy who's an NBA caliber player but didn't scream superstar or even an all-star.

Oh he's really quick for his size and has elite vision. I agree that he will be an NBA player for a long time. Long way to go to become a star.

Yeah Kidd was an elite defender at both guard positions and could guard most 3's.

Lonzo is not a good 1-on-1 defender right now.

Lonzo is Kidd-esque on offense. At worst he's a giant Rondo. I'd love to see him play with a team of veterans like he KG/PP/Ray Allen Celtics.

He also made 73% of all 2 point FG's he took and is a 41% 3 point shooter with more than NBA range.

He's a point guard tailor made for the modern era of layups(dunks) and 3's.

Did everyone come in with an elite J? His 3 was money in UCLA and he shot a very high % inside, great finisher.

He'll probably end up being a poor mans Jason kidd. Very poor as far as defense goes.

He also had a higher TS than:
Markelle Fultz
Grayson Allen
Luke Kennard
Bryce Alford
Lauri Markkanen
Malik Monk

His release is only .02 slower than Klay and .13 quicker than the NBA average.
