Dirk has made somewhere close to 300 million in the his career. He doesn't like the stock market per se (his words) and has put most of his money in the bank (his words). He doesn't buy extravagant things like some players. And he has had someone looking over his finances since he came over to the U.S.

Dirk took what he felt like taking. Not a big deal.

Yea.

Dirk just doesn't care about money. It is his choice. If he cared about money...he'd be on commercials selling watches and other shit for the last 15 years.

It is sad though that Cuban lucked into one of the handful of best franchise players of all time and has ****ed up around him for like 75% of his career.

The same guy at post game press conferences that would take all the gatorade bottles off the podium because as he says: they don't pay me.

If he really cared about the money he could have easily endorsed products throughout his career. He did a few endorsements a la shoes but he just never felt the need.

Exactly.

He's the last of a dying breed.

Just gonna be a weird feeling to follow a league without Dirk and Duncan. Two of my favorite players ever that could not have represented their franchises and cities any better.

He signed a two year deal and he did that (IMO) so that he didn't get the "farewell tour" a la Kobe. He doesn't want that promotion. If he retires it will be like Duncan and go out humbly. But at the start of next year:

Dirk deserves not just his jersey retired but a statue in Dallas

How much money has Dirk given up over the past few years? Took a paycut to get Wesley Matthews and Chandler Parsons paid and now he is getting paid like a 9th man in this league.

Cuban definitely has some under the table deals going on...

If anything, Cuban's been the one who failed Dirk, first by not being able to supply a better 2nd option than Jason freaking Terry for the whole 2005-2011 period and then by breaking up the championship team after 2011 to go and chase superstar free agents which never materialized.

Go check Dirk's playoff numbers and tell me which better player Cuben could've realistically gotten. The answer is none. Cuban should be glad he lucked into Dirk - but never managed to reciprocate by providing Dirk with an legit allstar level #2 option after failing to resign Steve Nash right before he went on to winning two MVPs.

And as far as "he could've told Dirk to retire" is concerned: that would've been all kinds of stupid. Dirk's still good for 14/4, he's still got quite a bit of value. Why on earth would anybody ask a player to retire when he's still contributing?

I agree. That 2011 team should never have been broken up the way they did. Was one of my favorite non home teams, the late 00's/early 10's Mavs.
