Re: Sixers bandwagon: I'm taking names and kicking people off
I don't think anyone ever seriously questioned that if you made a joke of the game and intentionally lose for years at a time you would eventually be able to draft good players. Id say the people who didn't like it were justified and if the same people also acknowledge that it can result in a good team that's fun to watch it will be fair for them to enjoy that team as well.
The Rockets and bulls traded everyone good and played people they knew would cause epic losing streaks down the stretch in 84 trying to draft Hakeem. When fans watching terrible blowouts and 15 game losing streak's and seeing the Rockets coaching staff forced by management to do things like play ancient Elvin Hayes 50 minutes in a game are upset by it.....does that mean they don't get to like Michael Jordan and Hakeem for the next 20 years?
Tanking is effective in a system where a bad record guarantees you a good pick of the best prospects. It's also somewhat disrespectful to the game to lose on purpose. Can't both those things be true?
I don't have to be supportive of a team essentially throwing seasons at a time in order to be entertained by Joel.
Tanking works. You can create good teams so it's easy to understand why people do it but it should also be easy to understand why fans of competition don't want to see games essentially thrown. I mean steroids work......and they have created directly or indirectly some of the best moments in sports. Doesn't mean I have to either support steroids or say I didn't like Arvydas Sabonis, Roger Clemens, or Barry bonds. I can acknowledge that it's a problem while still accepting that the results were entertaining.
