Because the league is full of 6'9" knockdown shooters with elite IQ and the ability to post up or run the offense from the perimeter

He was being defended by athletic freaks back then too, and embarrassing them with skill.

He would be a 4 today anyways. He'd rape small ball 4's these days.

Draymond Green is a weak run-jump athlete. Imagine if he had an all-time great jumper, an all-time great IQ, and the most well rounded scoring arsenal in the league.

Bird would regularly blow by some of the most athletic defenders in the league in his day by up-faking his jumper and driving to the basket. Because he could hit from distance without jumping (or barely jumping), it was easy for him to keep opponents off-balance and respect his shot without committing himself. He also had an incredibly quick first step. There are multiple highlights of Bird leaving opponents on floor because of how well he could sell his fakes and jab-steps.

He also had this great move where he would post-up defenders and either lean middle or baseline before driving in the opposite direction toward the basket. Did this several times vs. the likes of Dr. J. and Rodman - guys who would have no trouble keeping up athletically with today's players.

But if you're talking face-up penetration and blowing by defenders with hesitation dribbles and crossovers, then yes, Bird never really did that. They didn't allow palming or traveling in the 80s.

Oh man, these kids think 2k games are real.
Bird would be multiple MVP just like he did back in the 80's.

This. Anyone who watched him play knows that he would have no problem scoring today. His shot fake was exactly the same as his shot. At times I am sure he didn't decide whether or not he would shoot until he saw how the defense reacted when the ball was over his head.

You can't be a forward with the athletic ability of Bird and be a great player.

Ryan Anderson= Larry Bird

A championship team that won 29 games the season before he arrived. For god's sake go watch some film of Bird before you post stupid shit.

This. I believe he played the 4 spot his first couple years in the league. No racism but Gallanari, Parsons, and KLove are all white guys who aren't really regarded as athletic. All those guys have skill sets that at first look seem like spot up shooters with a bit of post game and swing at the 3-4 (2 for Parsons) positions. If they can succeed in the NBA so can Bird.
He could be like a smaller Jokic+Dirk with better passing idk.

It's obvious the extent of what you know about these players consist of reading their names on Basketball Reference

Why make a thread about shit you don't understand

OP has even the kids who ride the short yellow bus feeling sorry for him. This whole thread is a disaster.
