Default Is Derek Carr in the top 3 in the NFL in terms of arm talent?

Just look at these throws...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LScvzFn5Gms (His feet are not even set)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RR0pF6dWeJU (60 yard throw on the run, perfect dot over Sherman)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhKrAaqQFdc (Absolute bullet over two defenders for a TD)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Vr9Am0tu6c (0:14, look at that fast release and velocity on his throw)

I don't want to sound like a homer, but I can't name many QBs who can make throws like that. Insane arm talent with a quick release who can make all the throws.

Rodgers is obviously #1 by a mile. I would probably put Luck at #2 and Stafford at #3, but Carr is not far behind those two, and might already be passing them.

Disagree with Luck. I'm a fan of his, but Carr's release is quicker and he has more velocity on his throws.

maybe things are different now that luck fucked up his shoulder and had to have surgery, but back when he was 100% healthy his arm skill and strength were both excellent.

also based on what I found with 3 minutes of googling it seems like Brady and Alex Smith have the two "fastest releases" in the NFL. Brady I can understand, but when I think "arm talent" I dont think of Alex Smith lol

If we're talking just pure arm strength them Cam is probably above him as well.

Stafford and Rodgers are in a league of their own. Just based on how much velocity they have vs how quick they release. Luck is clearly #3.

Derek Carr has a nice arm and is definitely in the top 5-6 or so, but he can't throw lasers the way a few other guys can with such little effort.

Well, Alex Smith is also known to have mediocre arm strength when you compare him to other QBs in the league. Carr's arm strength is looked as a major plus in his game.

Look at the 3rd video I posted, that is an absolute laser. I watched every Raider game last season, I can't think of many QBs who has Carr's velocity.

Well I am certainly not trying to say that Smith has a good arm, I am just saying that it seems like release time might not be a good way to measure arm talent.

Anyway I pretty much agree with everything you have said in this thread. While I might rank Luck and Stafford ahead of Carr right now, Carr could easily pass them if he takes another step forward next year. For the record, after my local(ish) Seahawks, the Raiders might be my next favorite team in the league (especially now that they have one of my absolute all time favorite players in Marshawn).... so I am certainly no Carr hater. I want nothing but the best for that team.

op is talking about pure arm talent. that would be Brady. being able to throw passes in tight coverage better than any qb.

Carr could go out and sling 25 picks and have a 75 rating and It wouldn't change anything about "arm talent"
Cam Newton has tremendous arm talent but he's an average passing QB. His arm talent didn't go up and down by virtue of his MVP season and hissub par season last year.

Stafford, Flacco, Cam and Rodgers are superior to Carr in arm talent.

Healthy Luck (we'll see this year) would rank at the bottom of that elite tier above. Carr fits in next to Luck.

Can't really argue those 4, all of them have insane arms. Top 5 for Carr is still impressive though.

You guys are overrating Luck a bit, very good arm, but not on the level of Carr's arm or even Russell Wilson's arm.

I just don't see it. He's not a noodle arm, but there's nothing remarkable or ohshit about his throws like watching a Favre or an Elway either.

Yes, his quick release helps my view of that opinion. Beautiful.
