Default What are your thoughts on Self-Driving vehicles?

They're already here, but the grand goal is driverless cars. I feel like we're 10 years away from that.

Anyhow, the pros are that they are much safer and would reduce congestion.

Thoughts?

Will change the transportation industry. A paradigm shift of enormous magnitude. Full potential cant even be comprehended at the moment.

The biggest roadblock is regulation and the current push by many in the transportation industry to rely on mass transit as the future of transportation. This puts them at odds since it would mean that the debate of mass transit vs. small single occupancy vehicles will carry on. But even mass transit will be changed by this (example self-driving buses).

Personal opinion: we need these as soon as possible.

I want one. Being able to eat a bowl of cereal or read a book while I commute would be awesome. It would also save a ton of time and headache with simple tasks like searching for parking in crowded areas, since a self-driving car could just drop you off in front of your destination and then go off and park itself.

That said there are ways that a computerized self driving car could go terribly wrong, so I would def keep my trusty old toyota truck as a backup.

i nver really thought about it but i guess self driving cars would mean drunk driving isn't illegal anymore. in fact it'd be like your car is a cab and you could do whatever the fukk u want in it while it takes u somewhere. next level would be full entertainment system hollowed out cars with surround sofa's like you're in your living room while the car just drives

the big problem with it happening anytime soon is there are too many cars now that would have to become obsolete somehow for self driving cars to really become a standard. and that shit isn't happening for probably another 20-30~ years at least, even if self driving cars reality hits way earlier than that. its the same with electric cars. them becoming the standards wont happen for at least 10+ years i bet even tho they're out there now.

You can party in your vehicle if you want.

Brilliant. Drug traffickers will have such an easy time now, with all the cars being automated and all going the same speed. You'll never get pulled over again.

Of course, 10 million people in the trucking industry would lose their jobs overnight, but, shit happens.

Did I ever say we shouldn't have autonomous driving machines? I must have missed that, but maybe I did.

Can't remember if it was her, but that was the rationale given for why we should be pumped millions were losing their jobs.

any half decent drug trafficker is already driving the speed of traffic and keeping under the radar. you think cartels are going to trust millions of dollars worth of product with some idiot who drives like a jabroni?

How else do you think they spot traffickers?

Busted tail light, cracked windshield, expired tags, not using a turn signal...

All excuses to pull you over.
