Default Italian police attempt to remove hundreds of refugee squatters. What a mess

Hundreds of squatters take over an abandoned office building and the frontage road. After ignoring repeated warnings to leave, the police are forced to react.

What he means is that Europe could have VERY easily stopped the flow into Europe from the Middle East and North Africa. They could have EASILY stopped the human trafficking boats. They did absolutely nothing but encourage and assist the human trafficking.

They could not, you have no idea what you are talking about, the way you stop them is from the point of departure not arrival. Nobody encouraged anything, unless you mean the NGOs who worked independently; even those have been reigned in too. That is how the flow has been cut in half recently as well, by setting up a force in North Africa to contain the flow.

Italy has approached the migrant problem with a dual track strategy, strengthening Libya’s efforts to fight smuggling and at the same time putting pressure on non-governmental organizations (NGOs) involved in rescue operations.
Quote:
“It was important to intervene on the other side of the Mediterranean and we have focused on Libya. It seemed difficult, but it now appears that something is moving,” he added.

In Libya, Italy has trained members of the coastguard and upgraded its fleet, in line with the EU’s investments to support search and rescue operations at sea as well as those along its borders.

Minniti said that attention would also be given to the conditions of migrants brought back from sea to Libya and that Italy would start distributing aid in the cities of Sabratha and Zowarah, two hubs for the smuggling of migrants.
