Default Is buying a truck with over 100,000 miles a smart buy?

Looking for a Used Truck, but most of the trucks I can afford ($15,000-$20,000) all have well over 100,000 miles on it. Yet people still buy these like crazy. Trucks are in such high demand.

Are they worth it? Or should I not take the risk?

An electrician that works for me has a cargo van with over 400,000 miles on it. He does spend a few grand a year on tune-ups, but the engine is still chugging.

I dunno my truck is a little under 67,000 ATM... got it with 20k miles on it and my payment is $450... to get the same truck new would run $750 MINIMUM...

Trucks are like 40 to 50k+ now what the actual ****? It amazes me how many trucks I still see on the road at that price point...

I owe 2 more years on this puppy and I plan on driving it until the wheels fall off...

If you're going used because that's all you can afford just make sure you check the service history and finding an old man that's selling is probaby better than a dealer because you know chances are good he went easy on it...

100k isn't anything for a diesel truck, at least for the motor which is the most expensive fix. But even gasoline trucks can easily reach 200k with no problems these days if they've been taken care of. 5 years ago I bought a 2010 Ford F-250 diesel 4x4 that looked almost brand new but had 108k on it. It now has almost 200k and I haven't fixed a thing on it besides brakes, fluid changes, filters and a battery. The transfer case started making a clicking sound when the 4x4 is engaged but that's about it.

Most well-maintained newer trucks will go well over 200k.

I doubled my payment so I can pay this bitch off by Feb 2019.

God that'll be so nice. I say I want a new one but when I'm not paying for this one, that may change my mind.

I would think maintaining the truck would be rather more expensive than that of the car if you take into consideration the amount of mechanical involvement inside the truck, leaving more things to go wrong at any given point.

Depending on the make, year, and model I would search up that specific vehicle and spend some time on forums (specifically for that make) and do your own math.

To each their own, what it was used for, how well taken care it was from previous owners, how many owners had it, maintaining oil changes, finding out if there were any recalls for the vehicle and what particularly goes wrong with it.

my 2500 chevy express just hit 200k but feels like its only around 80k. it even made a trip from chicago to arkansas and back and was fine. it was very well taken care of by the previous owners which were contractors.

That mileage isn't shit if it's been maintained and if you will continue to do so, also where the hell are you seeing trucks with over 100k for 15-20 grand?

You can easily find a truck for 15-20 grand with under 100K.

I don't know where the heck you're looking.
