Exclamation Lakers Hire the NBA's Director of Basketball Analytics...

What a steal

Jason Rosenfeld as Director of Basketball Analytics

The Lakers are hiring Jason Rosenfeld, the NBA's director of basketball analytics, to fill the same role in L.A., sources say.

I'm sure he can tell the Lakers their chances of winning going forward with Brandon Ingram shooting .029 in the preseason

The damage has been done

Analytics only help to maximize existing talent, does nothing for teams with no talent like the Lakers

How much more analystics do they really need.
Last in defensive ratings. 29th in Adjusted defensive rating, beating the Nuggest by .05.
You fire Byron Scott and get a new coach.
No more Kobe tribute distractions.
You pay defensive forward Deng 18.5 mil/year.
You hire ANOTHER defensive minded Metta.
You have free reign and decide to bench your very expensive Mozgov after 40 games.
You only play your best offensive weapon Lou Williams 24 mins/game bec he's too undersized at SG......

Bold portions were clearly tanking strategies. Byron Scott was hired to babysit Kobe, and Kobe was on farewell tour to shoot the Lakers to high pick.

Drafting was where Lakers fell short. Russell didn't reach potential, Randle's game is too out of control, Ingram can't shoot & is too raw. Ball needs to tweak his jumper or risk opponents playing off him like Rondo/Rubio.

Deng signing was stupidity of 2 guys trying to save their jobs (Jimmy Buss, Kupchak). Same with Mozgov.

Ouch

You know it's bad news for a team when fans have to resort to bragging about directors of basketball analytics.
No other fans ever do this. There's a reason.

Don't understand. We have a solid team and expected to be above average.

Please explain your post

I think there is much more to it than just drafting players. I look at Miami, They have players that were picked late and yet finding ways to contribute well.
A lot of it is also nurturing, teaching and putting them in positions to succeed. They hired a shooting coach to help these guys find the right shooting form. Overweight guys like Haslem, Johnson etc became super fit which lead them to be much quicker and stronger etc.

I'm sure theres more to analytics than that and playing Lou Williams 24 minutes a game has to do with his ability to play defense against the 1st unit...Lou's always been a 6th man and that's what he's best at because he can get hot in a hurry, he's not the kind of guy you want to play 36 minutes because he's undersized and not fit to run an offense, he's great if you have a player like Harden or CP3 running the offense with him spotting up from 3 but you don't want him out there with D'Angelo Russell and Jordan Clarkson.

They benched Mozgov because they were trying to tank and wanted to develop Zubac, Zubac actually looked very promising at the end of last season, the kid has potential.
