It's dead because everyone uses that style.

Almost everyone sounds the same, most rappers use that style from Drake to Kendrick. Artists have collaborations and they all sound alike.

I can name 5 groups and nobody in that group sounded the same.

Wu, Outkast, Mobb Deep, Trybe, Boot Camp

Rappers back then took it as an insult if someone bit their style, now they jump on tracks together sounding the same.

On top of that, the beats all sound the same. There isn't a specific sound geographically like it used to be. Back then the West Coast has their own style, the East had their own sound, the South had their own style and the Mid had their own style. Shyit... even within the West you had different styles. You had the Bay sound and the Southern Cali sound.

Today there's very little diversity. Most of all the mainstream rappers sound similar. If not entirely on certain tracks.

It's a joke really. Rappers don't have to try hard to be good. Just release a track that sounds like a copy of another track and people will eat it up, because it sounds familiar.

Back then, we were thirsty for new shit.

DMX... who is that cat? he sounds different than everybody out there!!!

Today... meh.... he aint got a trap beat... pfft.

.

That's a rule in Hip-Hop you don't do. That is biting. Why exactly copy another rapper's flow?

My friend often says Bone Thugs are the forefathers of trap. You look back, and you can definately see that. Man, from that video that old 3 -6 Mafia stuff was dope!
